Penta won the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match in the main event of Saturday’s WWE premium live event in New Orleans.

He defeated CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Bron Breakker, Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans at the Smoothie King Center, retrieving the briefcase after 31:57.

The finish came after Penta stopped Breakker from climbing and set a second ladder horizontally between the standing ladder and the turnbuckles.

Penta and Breakker fought above it before Penta delivered a Mexican Destroyer onto the bridged ladder. With the rest of the field down, Penta climbed and retrieved the contract.

Breakker had dominated much of the closing stretch, hitting spears on Penta and Williams before running around ringside and driving Punk and Owens through the barricade near the timekeeper’s area.

Earlier, Breakker intercepted Evans during an attempted dive, spearing him into the barricade. Officials immediately checked on Evans before he was placed on a stretcher and taken backstage.

Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis were later shown as Evans was loaded into an ambulance, which drove away.

The vehicle unexpectedly returned later in the match, with Evans emerging to attack Breakker and re-enter the contest.

Evans then ran through several opponents before attempting to set up an oversized ladder in the center of the ring.

This process took some time, with officials at ringside appearing to shout instructions to Evans as he tried to position it beneath the briefcase.

Breakker stopped Je’Von’s first climb and later tipped the ladder over during another attempt, sending Evans from near the top and through the roof of the ambulance, which he had parked at ringside.

The match also continued the long-running issues between Punk and Owens, who repeatedly prevented one another from climbing.

Punk appeared to have a path to the briefcase after knocking Owens from the ladder, but Penta pulled him down. Punk countered a Penta Driver into the GTS before Owens intervened again.

Breakker then speared Punk and Owens in succession.

Trick Williams was accompanied by rapper Lil Yachty, who briefly climbed the ladder in an attempt to help Williams before Owens pulled him down and hit him with a Stunner.

Penta qualified last month by defeating Dragon Lee and Dominik Mysterio on Raw.

It was Penta’s second appearance in the Money in the Bank ladder match and his first victory.

Saturday’s win gives him a contract for a world championship match at a time of his choosing.
