Mauro Ranallo is the latest addition to Scott D’Amore’s Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling group when it debuts this October.
The promotion announced that Ranallo will return to professional wrestling to call the shows on October 19 & 20 on Triller TV.
Ranallo’s roots in pro wrestling go back to Al Tomko’s All-Star Wrestling where he performed as a teenager and later became the voice of the rebooted Stampede Wrestling in 1999.
In October 2003, he was hired by Dream Stage Entertainment to replace Damon Perry as the voice of Pride FC alongside Bas Rutten and became the voice synonymous with the promotion until leaving in late 2006.
Since 2007, he worked with Showtime Sports as its lead voice for its MMA content including Elite XC, and Strikeforce. He later became the lead voice for Showtime Championship Boxing where he called some of the biggest fights of the past decade until Showtime shuttered its boxing coverage.
He was hired by WWE to become the lead voice of WWE SmackDown in January 2016 working with Jerry Lawler and called the show for over a year. In 2017, he had a temporary departure but returned that summer and was assigned to NXT and not working with anyone on the main roster.
Ranallo left WWE in August 2020 during the pandemic.
He previously worked for D’Amore when he appeared at IMPACT Wrestling’s Rebellion pay-per-view in April 2021 to call the main event between Rich Swann and Kenny Omega.
Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling’s two-night ‘Forged in Excellence’ shows will include Konosuke Takeshita and El Phantasmo.
