AEW Collision Results: BCC, Pac & Danielson def Perry, Young Bucks & Okada

Burning Down the House

A special live Friday broadcast of AEW Collision from Chicago started with a recap of Hangman Adam Page burning down Swerve Strickland’s childhood home on Dynamite this past week. It was noted that the steel cage match between the two has become a Lights Out match and AEW has no responsibility for what happens in the match. 

A video from earlier in the day showed Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir arriving at the arena and a security guard running off when attempting to confront them. 

Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness then ran down the entire card announced so far for All Out. 

Collision Continental Contenders Match #1

The first match of the evening was the first of three where the winners of each would enter the Continental Championship Four-Way at All Out. First to the ring was Mark Briscoe who was promptly jumped by the Murderhawk Monster Lance Archer. Archer pummeled Briscoe around the outside of the ring before the bell rang, busting Briscoe open above his right eye in the process. 

 

Briscoe mounted an early comeback throwing a chair into the ring and doing his patented plancha dive onto Archer on the outside. Archer then recovered and the beatdown on Briscoe continued as they went into their first picture-in-picture break of the evening. After the break, Archer was practically toying with the near-limp Mark Briscoe as he chokeslammed him on the ring apron. Briscoe finally recovered and hit a flipping neckbreaker on the floor. Briscoe then hit the Death Valley Driver and Froggy Bo but Archer was able to kick out at two.

Briscoe then called for the Jay Driller but Archer countered and hit a massive chokeslam and then a buckle bomb on Briscoe. A bloody Briscoe then was able to hit a second Froggy Bo but Archer kicked out before the one count. Briscoe went back up to the top rope and hit a third Froggy Bo for the victory. 

The Learning Tree Chops Down The Conglomeration

Backstage, The Learning Tree cut a promo on The Conglomeration with Chris Jericho saying that it was time for Tomohiro Ishii to go back to Japan and while he would love to wrestle him again, there was no time. The camera then panned down to reveal that Ishii was laid out with a chair around his neck. 

GYV vs. Iron Savages

Next up was Grizzled Young Veterans taking on The Iron Savages with Jacked Jameson. The match began with the GYV dominating Boulder until he was able to double-suplex both opponents. Bronson then took control after Boulder was dumped to the outside. GYB then hit a double flapjack on Bronson onto the ropes followed by the “Grit Your Teeth” aka Total Elimination for the win.

FTR then came down to the ring and brawled with GYV, attempting to hit the Shatter Machine before GYV escaped. Jacked Jameson then celebrated with FTR but got a Shatter Machine for his efforts. 

Collision Continental Contenders Match #2

Backstage, Orange Cassidy said his backpack wasn’t full so he was going to punch Bryan Keith in his face for what The Learning Tree did to Tomohiro Ishii. Then he was going to take the Continental Championship from Okada and put it into his backpack next to the $7,000 cash that he wasn’t going to give Chris Jericho for destroying his jacket a few years back. Tony Schiavone noted that all members of The Learning Tree and The Conglomeration were banned from ringside for this match. 

Orange Cassidy started in blasé mode but quickly shifted into high gear with three consecutive tope suicidas onto Bryan Keith on the outside. Cassidy dominated Keith throughout the early goings until The Bad Apple turned things around by throwing Cassidy into the steel steps. Keith worked over Cassidy’s arm and at one point Cassidy wasn’t able to successfully remove his elbow sleeve to execute the Orange Punch. Bryan Keith then suplexed Cassidy into the turnbuckles and hit a Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Cassidy continued to sell his arm as he hit the Stundog Millionaire followed by the Beach Break for a two count. Cassidy followed up with an attempted Orange Punch but Keith punched Cassidy’s affected arm away. Cassidy then finally hit the Orange Punch, a big DDT, and a tornado DDT from the top rope for the win.

After the match, Chris Jericho was backstage congratulating Cassidy’s win. Jericho then revealed that he had stolen Cassidy’s Jansport backpack and if he didn’t pay him the $7,000 he would destroy the backpack. 

Kamille, Banned Tomorrow But Not Tonight 

Mercedes Moné was interviewed backstage and was asked how she was preparing for her match now that Kamille was banned from ringside for tomorrow night’s match against Hikaru Shida. Moné wondered why Christopher Daniels was always up in her business but noted that Kamille was not banned from tonight and that everyone should watch what they do.

The Outrunners First Televised Win

Next up was The Outrunners who got a huge pop from the Chicago crowd taking on Davey Bang and August Matthews. Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum beat down the local indie talents – including a fun reference to Predator – and then hit their finisher “Total Recall” for the win in just over two minutes. 

Renee Sits Down with Willow & Statlander

Renee sat down with Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander and asked why Statlander turned on Willow back at Double or Nothing. Statlander lamented that she never got a rematch after losing her TBS Championship. Statlander said it was always about Willow and never about her. Nightingale wondered what Stokely’s involvement was but Statlander shrugged it off. Stat said that she was glad they had a Street Fight tomorrow because Willow could give her physical scars to go along with the emotional ones she already had. 

Collision Continental Contenders Match #3

The next match was the third and final Continental Contenders match between Konosuke Takeshita and The Beast Mortos. Footage was shown from after Dynamite went off the air this past week with Takeshita and Mortos brawling after Callis was instructing Takeshita to attack his downed opponent. 

Takeshita took early control of Mortos as he hit a massive Tope con Giro (or “Top Rope Giro” as Tony Schiavone called it) and followed up by trying to rip off his mask. Mortos recovered and hit an impressive Tornillo onto Takeshita on the outside. Takeshita regained control and hit Mortos with a massive superplex from the top rope. After the picture-in-picture break, Mortos hit Takeshita with a massive backbreaker and a Samoan Drop. Takeshita then hit a brutal-looking German Suplex that Mortos no-sold. Takeshita then hit Mortos with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two-count. Mortos then attempted to do a gorilla press slam from the top rope but couldn’t quite get Takeshita all the way up, causing Takeshita to come down hard on his shoulder. Mortos followed that up with a big spear but Takeshita kicked out at one.

Then both men exchanged extremely hard head butts and lariats, followed by Takeshita hitting a Crucifix Bomb for a near fall. Takeshita finally was able to hit a huge Running Knee followed by the Raging Fire for the win. 

 

The Outcasts Respond to Jamie Hayter

Saraya and Harley Cameron responded to Jamie Hayter saying they watched her match and that someday soon she was going to be in a lot of trouble for disrespecting Saraya and her family at Wembley. 

The Glamour

Mariah May cut a backstage promo saying that she still hadn’t had her Championship celebration but tomorrow was All Out. She continued by saying the saddest part about being her is that she’ll never get to meet Mariah May. 

Shida vs. Purrazzo

Next up was Hikaru Shida taking on Deonna Purrazzo. Looming here was the fact that earlier in the night, Mercedes teased that Kamille was not banned from ringside tonight. Purrazzo gained an early advantage by ramming Shida multiple times into the turnbuckle as the show went to break. Afterwards, Shida recovered hitting a brutal knee to the side of Purrazzo’s head. Purrazzo countered a top rope Meteora with a Fujiwara Armbar and a powerbomb for a two count. Shida and Deonna exchanged uppercuts and pump kicks as Shida hit a Falcon Arrow for a near fall. Shida then hit the Katana for the win.

Mercedes Moné’s music hit, distracting Shida and allowing Kamille to jump Shida from behind. Mercedes then got in the ring and tried to hit Shida with the Kendo stick but instead hit Kamille. Moné attempted to hit a backstabber but Shida held onto the ropes and Shida hit the Katana on Moné. Then she and Kamille retreated. 

FTR Promo

FTR called GYV a less attractive “Hair and Bald” and challenged GYV to a match next week on Collision from Dayton, OH.

The Acclaimed Promo

Lexi Nair interviewed The Acclaimed and Max Caster now has a jacket that says “Best Wrestler Alive” and continued with their “Nut Up or Shut Up” schtick. MxM Collection interrupted and said no one wanted them in AEW anymore. This was all to promote their match on Rampage later. 

Main Event All-Star 8-Man Tag Team Match

The main event of the evening was the AEW Trios Champions Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and Pac, along with AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson taking on all four members of The Elite: TNT Champion Jack Perry, Tag Team Champion Young Bucks and Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada. The bell rang and the crowd chanted “holy shit” with Okada and Danielson squaring off but instead, Jack Perry tagged in and the crowd broke into “Oh, Cry Me a River” chants. 

It didn’t take long for all eight men to brawl in the ring simultaneously with the face team gaining the advantage and Danielson attempting to kick Perry’s head in, only for the heels to pull Perry out much like what happened on Dynamite this past week. 

 

After the final commercial break of the show, the heels got Yuta, Pac, and Castagnoli hung up in the ropes allowing Matthew Jackson to hit a Swanton onto all three. Danielson in the meantime was incapacitated by Perry after being thrown into the ringside barricade. Nicholas Jackson then taunted the Chicago crowd calling himself the “Best in the World”. Castagnoli then got the hot tag and cleaned house with him and Yuta hitting the Hart Attack on the Young Bucks. The Bucks then thwarted the Big Swing and hit an assisted Sliced Bread for a two-count. Okada and Castagnoli then exchanged big blows with Tony Schiavone reminding us that the two went to a time-limit draw for the Continental Championship recently in Cardiff. 

Jack Perry and Bryan Danielson were then both tagged in with Perry screaming “I’m not afraid of you!”. Things then kicked into high gear with every single competitor coming in to hit big maneuvers with Perry coming out on top until he was hit with a missile dropkick from Danielson. Danielson then pumped up the crowd as he started in with his kicks to Perry. 

The show then went to black as Schiavone said they were going into Rampage. The action continued to break down Okada teased a dive over the top rope only to stop and give the middle finger to the crowd. Pac then hit a big dive over the top rope taking out Okada and Perry. Pac then hit a big 450 splash on Okada with Pac’s knees landing squarely onto Okada’s ribs. 

Rampage then went to its first commercial break and upon return, Castagnoli and Yuta hit a crossbody on Nicholas Jackson for a two-count. Danielson then chased Jack Perry through the crowd with the both of them fully sprinting to the backstage area. The Young Bucks then hit the EVP trigger on Yuta for a two. Castagnoli then caught Nicholas Jackson in the middle of the Meltzer Driver and executed the Big Swing. Yuta hit the drop kick and picked up the victory with Matthew Jackson just getting in a second too late to make the save.

Final Thoughts

As the final go-home show before tomorrow night’s All Out Pay-Per-View, all of the matches had mostly predictable outcomes. That said, all of the Collision Continental Contenders matches were very good with Beast Mortos and Takeshita being the best. Takeshita is excellent at selling and some of him and Mortos’ moves looked absolutely brutal. The main event bleeding into Rampage was an interesting move with some questions about the potential of a three-hour block of AEW programming looming over the soon-to-be new TV rights deal.
