NJPW published a tribute to Kobayashi.

On September 9th at the age of 68, Kuniaki Kobayashi passed away. He was known for his rivalry with the first and second Tiger Mask.

After the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion retired from in-ring competition, he became the manager of the New Japan Dojo and helped train future talents. During his in-ring career, he was diagnosed with colon cancer but made his return after undergoing surgery.

Towards the backend of his career, cancer spread to his liver. He wore a tank top to hide the scars from surgery, which factored into his decision to retire. He also underwent surgeries for lung cancer.

Shinsuke Nakamura tweeted about Kobayashi’s passing and noted that he learned many things at the Dojo and is praying for him to rest in peace.

New Japan published a piece about the life of Kobayashi that can be read here.

POST Wrestling would like to send our condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Kuniaki Kobayashi
