Xia Zhao’s debut match in the promotion was against Hyan.
Over the weekend, TNA Wrestling held their Victory Road special from San Antonio, Texas. The following day, there was a television taping and the promotion brought in Texas’ own, 10-year wrestler Hyan.
She wrestled Xia Zhao a.k.a. Lei Ying Lee in her debut match for TNA. Hyan spoke about that and her overall experience during a chat with Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
It was incredible (to return to TNA/IMPACT) because it wasn’t like an Xpolsion match that they do sometimes. It was on the show-show and I was her (Lei Ying Lee) first opponent. I was in her debut so, that’s a big honor to be part of someone’s debut and I know there’s extra pressure that goes into it as well because it’s their debut so you wanna make sure it goes perfect for them, and it reflects on you as well, if you’re able to make someone else look good, and sell and do what you have to do and I felt like I did everything to the best of my ability. I was there the day before as well for the pay-per-view so I got to see the sold-out crowd and the crowd was still very, very rowdy the next day for the tapings. So I was really, really impressed to see, you know, how far TNA has come. The TNA that’s here now is different from what it was two years ago and what it was two years before that is completely different and you can just see the trajectory of it going up and up and up. The crowds growing, the popularity growing, the pay-per-views are doing more numbers. I feel like the Knockouts division is getting the love that it so truly has always deserved because Jordynne (Grace), Masha (Slamovich), all the girls there — Dani Luna, yeah — they’re all so talented and rightfully deserve to be in TNA and TNA, I feel like is one of the best places for women’s wrestlers.
The fallout of Victory Road is going to unfold on the 9/19 TNA iMPACT. POST Wrestling will have written coverage of the show as the company embarks on the road to their Bound For Glory pay-per-view on October 26th.
