Kenny Omega wants to settle his beef with Gabe Kidd at the Tokyo Dome.
Omega, who hasn’t wrestled in nearly a year, is expected to make his in-ring return as part of AEW x NJPW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5, as he recently called for a grudge match on the card.
The former AEW World Champion and IWGP Heavyweight Champion laid out a challenge for Kidd in a recent interview, calling for a fight against the Bullet Club member after being attacked backstage at NJPW Power Struggle.
“Well, I’d like to address recent circumstances, and things that have happened with Gabe Kidd,” Omega told NJPW in a recent interview. “I’ve had time to reflect after Power Struggle, and I feel I would regret not being able to make things right. I would hate for this situation to cause a rift between AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. So after conversations I’ve had with President Tanahashi and other executives in NJPW, I’ve decided that if New Japan requests it, if Gabe requests it, and if the fans want it, then I will wrestle Gabe Kidd, as a professional at Wrestle Dynasty January 5.”
It didn’t take long for Kidd to accept the challenge.
“I find it pretty f****** hilarious that this guy accepts a match with me rather than reaching out, and calls me unprofessional in an interview,” Kidd said in a social media post. “That’s fine with me, Kenny. That’s fine with me bro. But you’re gonna wish that diverticulitis killed you, because step in the ring with me, you’re done out here. So f*** you. See you in Tokyo Dome, b****.”
As alluded to by Kidd, Omega had been sidelined for all of 2024 due to diverticulitis, which he underwent surgery for in May. He previously opened up regarding the illness during an episode of AEW Dynamite.
The upcoming matchup, which we’re still awaiting official confirmation on from a promotion, will be Omega’s first NJPW appearance since early 2023 when he worked a pair of early January shows and most notably faced Will Ospreay in a 34-minute classic.
Kidd has become one of NJPW’s fastest-rising stars in recent years, gaining prominence as a member of the Bullet Club War Dogs faction. He currently holds the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship.
