Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XII was headlined on Sunday by the man who gives the event its name going up against MVP.

The show took place at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, NJ. It was notable for featuring currently contracted talent from NXT, AEW and TNA.

The event features a “worked-shoot” style, with no pinfalls in a wrestling ring without ropes.

The main event saw MVP in his first televised match since July 2022, when he was still with WWE. The match began slowly with Barnett and MVP feeling each other out. MVP was then grounded but managed to escape a series of leg lock attempts.

Deeper into the match, the pair exchanged forearm and elbow strikes before Barnett managed to lock in a rear naked choke for the win. The two embraced after the match.

Barnett then handed the microphone to MVP, who paid tribute to Barnett as one of the first people he trained with.

The show ended with an open challenge by Barnett for The People vs. GCW at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on January 19th.

In the semi-main, fellow Canadians Josh Alexander and “Speedball” Mike Bailey faced each other. In the early going, Alexander dodged Bailey’s flurry of kicks and grounded the smaller man.

Just as Bailey was making his comeback, Alexander hit him with a German suplex on the floor. Bailey rallied to cinch in a triangle choke, but Alexander countered with an ankle lock for the submission win.

Earlier, NXT’s Myles Borne made his Bloodsport debut against Royce Isaacs. Underlining the point that WWE-contracted talent can lose on these shows, Isaacs submitted Borne. Isaacs had also prevailed over Charlie Dempsey at Bloodsport XI.

TNA Knockouts Champion Masha Slamovich faced Lei Ying Lee (formerly Xia Li). Before the match, Slamovich took to the mic and announced that the contest would be a title defense. Slamovich won by knockout after a series of blows to back of Lee’s head.

Marina Shafir was accompanied to ringside by AEW World Champion Jon Moxley for her match. Shafir defeated Jody Threat by submission with a Mother’s Milk chokehold after a match that spilled into the crowd. Moxley raised her arm after the victory was announced.

Tracey Williams stepped in for AKIRA, who was out with injury. He fell to NXT’s Charlie Dempsey by submission when Dempsey locked in a Fujiwara armbar after a competitive match.
