Lee Moriarty submits Nigel McGuinness to retain ROH Pure Championship at Final Battle

A signature win for Moriarty.

Lee Moriarty issued an open challenge for his Pure Championship at ROH Final Battle. Seated at the judges table were Jerry Lynn, Rocky Romero and Christopher Daniels.

Answering the open challenge was Nigel McGuinness. McGuinness is the longest-reigning Pure Champion of all-time at 350 days. He had not been in a Pure Title match since 2006.

Before the match began, there was a verbal back-and-forth between McGuinness and Shane Taylor, who accompanied Moriarty to the ring. McGuinness said just because Taylor has hair around his mouth does not mean he has to act like a ‘p*ssy.’ Taylor fired back by saying the people in the audience who reacted to Nigel’s jab have never seen one.

McGuinness stated that the match with Moriarty would be old school Pure Rules, so no judges are needed. During the bout, Taylor demanded a second referee join the mix after McGuinness tricked referee Mike Posey into giving Moriarty his second of three rope break violations.

In the end, it was Moriarty submitting McGuinness to retain the Pure Title. The two talents showed respect to each other afterwards.
