One of Bellator’s longest-tenured fighters is now a free agent as the brand appears to be done.
On Tuesday, PFL chairman Donn Davis stated that Patrício Pitbull Freire is a free agent following multiple public comments by the disgruntled fighter.
Freire was the Bellator featherweight champion and has publicly made requests for his release due to a lack of fights being offered.
The 37-year-old is the most decorated fighter in the promotion’s history as he began competing for the group in 2010. During his tenure, he held the featherweight title three times, the bantamweight title once, was victorious in two tournaments, and holds the Bellator record for most wins, most finishes, and most fights.
Freire won his latest 145-pound title in April 2022 when he avenged his loss to A.J. McKee and defended the belt against Ádám Borics, and Jeremy Kennedy. He has not competed since last March.
The release of Freire comes on the day when PFL issued a statement that all future events would be branded “PFL” and a dissolution of the Bellator brand it purchased.
