Jey Uso says he likes that ‘nobody’ expected his Royal Rumble win

When Jey Uso walked into a meeting with the final four competitors in the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble, he said he didn’t believe he was the planned winner of the match.

Then, the unexpected came true: Uso learned it was his turn to get the massive Road To Wrestlemania spotlight.

Uso’s win at the 2025 Royal Rumble last weekend was considered unexpected by many, including Uso himself. With so many other major players in the match – John Cena, Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins to name a few – Uso played spoiler when he emerged victorious after 80 minutes.

That’s exactly what Uso liked about the result, as he described in a recent interview with UFC’s Daniel Cormier.

“I liked it, Uce, because I knew not one person in that arena thought it was going to be me,” he explained.

Uso linked the moment to his win last September against Bron Breakker, which saw him kick off a brief run with the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

“That’s the swerve I like. Just like on Monday Night Raw against Bron Breakker, one of the hottest up-and-coming superstars. ‘He’s not going to beat him on a Monday Night Raw,'” Uso believed people said about him before the match.

“And they go crazy [when it happened]. Everybody went crazy. That’s the emotion that I like to pump to the fans, man. We got to swerve because everyone’s smart today.”

Uso hasn’t yet decided whether he will use his Rumble victory on WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther or WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. He’s expected to appear this Friday as part of Smackdown as he comes closer to his decision.
