MLW has announced that retired fighter Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will be making his promotional debut at today’s taping in Orlando, Florida.

Lawal, 38, had his final mixed martial arts fight on Friday night’s Bellator 233 show where he was stopped by Andrew Kapel in 1:22. Lawal had stated it would be his last fight heading into the show and removed his gloves after the loss to signal his farewell.

It was noticeable that Lawal had the MLW logo present on his fight shorts for the fight with Kapel to signal his transition to the pro wrestling group. He will appear at Saturday’s television taping at the Gilt Nightclub in Orlando, Florida for future airing on beIN Sports.

Lawal has always been a huge fan of professional wrestling and signed a contract with TNA in 2012. Lawal never panned out for the promotion and ultimately pursued his path in MMA as opposed to splitting time between the two industries.

Lawal rose to fame fighting in Japan for the Sengoku group. He joined Strikeforce in 2009 and became the group’s light heavyweight champion in April 2010 defeating Gegard Mousasi and held it until for four months. In 2013, he joined Bellator and fought 17 times for the promotion, as well as additional fights for RIZIN through the relationship between the two organizations.
