The UFC light heavyweight sweepstakes for the next championship fight appear to have ended with Dominick Reyes earning the next opportunity at Jon Jones.
UFC president Dana White confirmed to ESPN that Jon Jones will defend his championship against Reyes on pay-per-view on February 8th.
The card doesn’t have a number attached to it because of the pending card on January 18th and whether a deal can be struck with Conor McGregor to fight on that date.
Reyes, 29, is undefeated with a professional record of 12-0 with six wins inside the UFC. Reyes last fought in October, knocking out former middleweight champion Chris Weidman in the first round as Weidman moved up a weight class.
The reigning champion, Jones, fought twice in 2019 with a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Smith in March and a split win over Thiago Santos in July.
The show on February 8th will take place from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas with a second championship fight set between Valentina Shevchenko and Katlyn Chookagian on the show.
UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko won the vacant title last December and defended the championship successfully against Jessica Eye and Liz Carmouche this year.
Chookagian has been fighting in the promotion since 2016 with a 6-2 record and 13-2 overall. She last fought at UFC 244 earlier this month defeating Jennifer Maia by unanimous decision.
