Friday’s early morning weigh-ins provided added drama for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night card after headliner Deiveson Figueiredo missed weight.

The 32-year old stepped onto the scale at 127.5 pounds, missing the championship limit of 125 pounds for his championship fight with Joseph Benavidez.

The two were set to headline Saturday’s card in Norfolk, Virginia for the vacant title last held by Henry Cejudo before he relinquished it.

The fight will proceed, although only Benavidez is eligible to win the title. A win by Figueiredo would be a win on his record but the title would not be awarded to him because of the weight. Figueiredo will also forfeit 30% of his purse for missing the limit.

This is the first time Figueiredo has missed weight after eighteen professional fights and seven in the UFC. It was noted by MMA Fighting that of his seven UFC fights, he only came in at 125 pounds once as you have a one-pound allowance for non-championship fights.

He debuted for the promotion in June 2017 and gone 6-1, including three fights in 2019.
