The opening match of the September 8th episode of NXT featured Adam Cole and Finn Balor clashing for the NXT Championship. In last week’s main event, Balor, Cole, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa competed in a four-way Iron Man match for the NXT Title. When the timer expired, Balor and Cole were tied which set up the match for this week.
It was a back and forth bout as both men kicked out of each other’s finishers but the match concluded when Balor hit the “1916” off the top rope to pin Adam Cole and become NXT Champion.

For the second time in his career, Balor has captured the NXT Title. He returned to the brand in the Fall of 2019 after losing to Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam and just one year later, he is now the NXT Champion.
