KUSHIDA, Kyle O’Reilly, Bronson Reed, Cameron Grimes and Timothy Thatcher competed in a Eliminator Gauntlet match to close out the 9/23 episode of NXT. The winner of the match earned the opportunity to challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at TakeOver on 10/4. Coming down to final sequence of the match, Cameron Grimes attempted to hit his signature double foot stomp but landed on his “tweaked” knee which led to Kyle O’Reilly capitalizing and tapping Grimes out.
It’s now official that after three years in NXT, O’Reilly will get his first shot at a singles title on the brand when he challenges Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at TakeOver. After his win, O’Reilly was met in the ring by Adam Cole and Roderick Strong who embraced him. Balor then made his way out to the stage area and stared down his TakeOver opponent.
