With the return of NBA competition, AEW Dynamite and NXT were largely unchanged from their performances last week that saw AEW finish among the top ten cable programs.

Dynamite saw a dip of 6 percent with an average of 835,000 viewers on TNT featuring the short-notice AEW title match between Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. The original six-man tag involving Moxley and Lance Archer on opposite sides was scrapped after news of Archer’s positive COVID-19 test was revealed. It led to a bigger match as AEW title matches are rare on Dynamite and there was a story after Kingston wasn’t eliminated from the Casino Battle Royale.

AEW did a 0.32 rating in the 18-49 demographic, finishing ninth for the night among its cable competitors and tied the Stanley Cup Final game, which was listed eighth with a 0.32 rating as well. The demo rating for Dynamite was down from last week’s 0.34.

NXT finished with 696,000 viewers and a 0.18 rating in the demographic finishing 38th for the night. NXT was up by 1 percent in viewership while maintaining its demo rating from a week ago. Wednesday’s episode was promoted around the Gauntlet Eliminator and Women’s Battle Royal to decide the challengers for the NXT title and NXT women’s title at TakeOver on October 4th.

The major difference this week was the NBA playoffs, which had an off night last week. The game between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat topped the cable charts with 4,484,000 viewers and a 1.76 demo figure. The NHL game between Tampa Bay and Dallas was eighth for the night with 1,145,000 with AEW tying them in the demo rating.

The NXT audience was largely unaffected by the NBA while AEW was hurt among its young male audience and with its 18-34 audience with declines in those categories.

For Dynamite, males 12-34 fell 31 percent this week with adults 18-34 dropped by 17 percent. Interestingly, NXT stayed even in both demos from last week. Both sides were hurt with males 18-49 as AEW was down 13 percent and NXT down 8.5.

Female viewership on both sides remained steady as did its older audiences in 25-54 and 50+. Among females 12-34, AEW increased by 7 percent and NXT saw a jump of 33 percent.

As usual, AEW dominated across the demographic figures while NXT won with the 50+ audience by a margin of 0.37 to 0.32.

If the Denver Nuggets vs. L.A. Laker series goes to a seventh game, it will be played next Wednesday.
