GCW Joey Janela’s Spring Break 4 – FITE TV (Presented by Orange Crush)
October 10th, 2020

Marion County Fairgrounds – Indianapolis, IN

By: John Siino

Commentary: Kevin Gill, Dave Prazak & Lenny Leonard

The opening video shows Joey Janela walking into a corner store and grabbing a beer. He sees a Rock N Roll Express arcade machine and starts playing it, before paying for his beer. Someone walks in and stares him down. We see clips of Rock N Roll Express as the store owner starts choking Janela from behind.

GCW Heavyweight Champion Rickey Shane Page and 44OH walk out, as the Indiana crowd chants “Fuck Ohio”. Page says it is not an open challenge and he found an opponent, student Marcus Mathers. Page says never mind, he is a child, he will not be wrestling him and Mathers heads to the back. Page says his real opponent is 2nd generation and the son of 911; 411. The announcers identify him as Big Dom. Before he gets to the ring the 44OH attacks him as Page tells them to escort him out before 411 gets a chair shot. The crowd starts chanting Fuck Ohio again. Danhausen comes out to accept the challenge. 44OH attacks Danhausen before the bell can even ring. Eddy Only and Gregory Iron beat him to the back. We now hear Alan Parsons Project “Sirius” playing as Orange Cassidy walks out.

Non-Title Match: Rickey Shane Page vs. Orange Cassidy

The crowd is ecstatic and starts chanting Freshly Squeezed and “Fuck Him Up, Cassidy, Fuck him up”. They both immediately exit the ring, teasing each other before 44OH rolls Orange in, but the momentum rolls Orange all the way to the other side to the outside again. It almost happens again until Page puts a stop to it before Orange rolls him up for a small package. Orange puts his hands in his pocket, Page removes them, and they go back and forth putting them in and out to “Boo”/”Yay” spots. Orange attempts a dive, but Gregory Iron trips him up. We go back and forth with Page throwing Cassidy outside as he keeps getting ambushed by 44OH. Orange hits Page with “brutal” strikes and kicks before Page attempts a chokeslam, but Orange reverses and dives to Eddy Only. Orange attempts to jump off the top, Atticus Cogar & Eric Ryan try to stop him but end up falling on tables and chairs that were set up, Orange hits a trust dive onto all of them. Orange attempts the superman punch, but Page reverses it to a choke-breaker for a two count. Gregory Iron comes into hold Orange, Page attempts to drink Orange’s juice, but Orange kicks it in his face rolling up Page with the ‘mousetrap’ for the pin.

Orange Cassidy def. Rickey Shane Page at 7:59

Siino Vision: Fun opening with a lot of fun teasers and fan favorites before the surprise of Orange Cassidy gets the crowd hyped up to start the show. The usual Orange tricks that got him popular in the indies to begin with, and fun to see him back in the environment.

We see Matt Tremont talking over highlights of his matches discussing the history of Spring Break and GCW. He talks about writing the last couple pages of his book before hanging it with his final GCW match vs. Alex Colon.

IronBeast (KTB & Shane Mercer) vs. The Rascalz (Dez & Wentz)

KTB and Dez start the match before Wentz quickly tags him in as The Rascalz start double-teaming KTB with Wentz hitting a bronco buster. They then hit stereo topes onto IronBeast on the outside. IronBeast then starts double teaming as they belly to belly suplex Dez onto Wentz who was set up in a Tree of Woe. IronBeast then starts grabbing wooden doors from under the ring. IronBeast dominated The Rascalz with a mix of double team moves including Mercer bench pressing Wentz into a gutbuster by KTB before he hit a B-Sault for a 2 count. Wentz finally makes the hot tag to Dez who comes in hitting uppercuts and kicks to KTB. The Rascalz both attempt dives but both get caught and thrown into each other by IronBeast. They attempt a Doomsday Device to Dez, but he ducks it while on the shoulders. KTB flips Mercer into a moonsault while he is holding Dez for a 2 count. Dez attempts to dive to the outside but IronBeast holds up the wooden door and Dez flies right into it then tossed into the door again to break it. KTB powerbombs Wentz into Mercer who hits a German suplex for the pin.

IronBeast def. The Rascalz at 9:31

Siino Vision: Strong showing from both teams, but IronBeast with their innovative moves of strength and the commentary team hype up them possibly heading over to Japan once they can travel again.

Lee Moriarty vs. Jonathan Gresham

Moriarty is popular with the crowd with the Shaw Bros/Wu-Tang Clan “Tiger Style” motto. Gresham out with one half of the ROH Tag Team Championship. The match starts with a sleuth of holds and submissions with Gresham getting the upper hand. They go back and forth with arm holds and kicks before Moriarty gets the upper hand now with submission holds. Gresham comes back with an arm drag before selling his left arm being in pain. Gresham gets a 2 count after twisting Moriarty’s right leg into a pinning hold. They go back and forth with pinning attempts before Gresham takes Moriarty down with another arm drag. Moriarty hits a double stomp to Gresham’s elbow before hitting a DDT for a 2 count into an armbar. Gresham hits a beautiful dropkick to the back of Moriarty who was sitting on the apron knocking him to the outside. Gresham hits a mixture of arm holds with pin attempts continuing to work on the arm of Moriarty. They get into each other’s faces with some trash talk before striking each other back and forth with kicks and punches before going back to the canvas with arm holds. They turn it into second gear with fast-moving elbow strikes and suplexes as Gresham keeps attempting pinfalls before a third elbow strike to the head. Gresham puts on the Octopus Hold followed by hammer fists to Moriarty before tapping out.

Jonathan Gresham def. Lee Moriarty at 20:46

Gresham gets on the mic after and thanks to the crowd for supporting Independent Wrestling. He shouts out one of his best friends Alex Shelley saying Moriarty is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world and that Shelley is correct. He put out the invitation to come to Ring of Honor and fight for the Pure Championship as he is the definition of a Pure wrestler.

Siino Vision: Fantastic match that will be difficult to top tonight. The first half of the match saw wrestling psychology at its best with each man working each other’s arms before a fast-paced ending sequence that was outstanding. Moriarty has already been one of the most talked-about independent wrestlers out there, but this match hopefully should escalate that discussion to a higher level, especially with a Ring of Honor Champion like Gresham with such high praise.

Next Gen (Jordan Oliver, Alex Zayne, Blake Christian) vs. Team Pazuzu (Chris Dickinson, Ortiz & Santana)

Dickinson & Christian start the match. Dickinson gets a little annoyed by Christian with his escapes. Commentary notes Dickinson has been cutting out the Dunkin’ Donuts to get ready for his match with Jon Moxley tomorrow on Bloodsport. Dickinson tells Christian to lay it on him before landing two devastating chops. Christian reverses a German suplex before running into a shoulder tackle. Santana comes in holding Christian away from his team before he escapes and tags in Oliver. Oliver has been doing the opposite of Dickinson and has been adding to his diet to gain muscle mass. Dickinson and Ortiz take turns tagging in and beating down on Oliver before Ortiz takes out both Christian and Zayne on the corner. Zayne comes in, hitting a beautiful standing spinning moonsault on Ortiz for a 2 count. Dickinson and Christian come in before Gill calls Dickinson the best thing out of Staten Island since Wu-Tang Clan. All six men start fighting inside and outside the ring ending up with Team Pazuzu triple-teaming Christian in the ring post.

Dickinson hits a vicious piledriver on Christian while holding onto his leg. Zayne hits a shooting star press knees first onto Dickinson. All six, start brawling again hitting stereo pescados before Christian gets a 2 count on Dickinson. Dickinson hits a Death Valley driver followed by a frog splash by Santana onto Zayne for another two-count as Pazuzu looks stunned. Christian and Dickinson start smacking each other back and forth getting the crowd onto their feet. Zayne takes out Santana and Ortiz outside with a dive while Dickinson attempts to take out Christian inside with a lariat, He finally gets the pinfall on Christian with a Pazuzu Bomb.

Team Pazuzu def. Next Gen at 23:54

Dickinson gets on the mic and says he has been watching Next Gen the last couple years grow up to be amazing athletes. He also mentions how his brothers Santana and Ortiz have gone from nobodies to superstars. Talks about the amount of talent in the ring right now before saying it could only happen in GCW. Santana talks about hearing so much about these three “Young Lions” tearing it up, before thanking everybody in the audience. Telling them to keep supporting Indy wrestling and keep supporting GCW. All six men shake hands and embrace.

Siino Vision: Great showing from both teams, and nice to see Santana and Ortiz back with Dickinson. Oliver, Zayne, and Christian have all been top names and showed tonight why they have been called Next Gen. Another instance of an established star like Dickinson putting over new and upcoming talent on a large scale.

Tony Deppen vs. Alex Shelley

The match starts fast with them hitting going back and forth before going to the apron where Shelley hits Deppen with a DDT on the ‘hardest part of the ring’. They start going in the corner before Deppen hits Shelley looney with a shot to the ear before applying the figure four in the middle of the ring. They shout out both of their Twitter accounts with them having inspirational sayings as well as gif wars. They tussle a bit before Deppen dropkicks Shelley in the knee, targeting that.  They mention Deppen sticking around last night just to study Shelley in his match against Lee Moriarty and Tre Lamar at AIW Thunder in Paradise to see if there are any weak body parts he should target. Shelley taunts Deppen to bring it and Deppen chargers with a bunch of chops to Shelley’s knee. Deppen puts Shelley in the Crossface with Shelley finally getting to the rope. Deppen tries to get the crowd behind him but they chant for Shelley instead. Deppen misses a double stomp and walks into three superkicks before Shelley hits an Air Raid Crash for a one-count as Shelley is stunned. Shelley follows with a Shell Shock for a two count into a Motor City Stretch that Deppen reverses for a two count. They roll around a bit before Deppen gets the magistral cradle for the win.

Tony Deppen def. Alex Shelley at 13:29

Siino Vision: Nice showing from both, I have heard of Deppen but have not seen too much of his work but with this, I can see why he can be the talk of the town. Promotions being represented today continues with one half of the Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions fulfilling his commitment he made before COVID shut everything down.

Lio Rush vs. ACH

Two men both coming from WWE and both flirting with the idea of retirement earlier this year. Lio Rush had his ‘final match’ a couple of months back in GCW against Joey Janela and has said the reaction he received has convinced him to keep going. Both men look motivated and determined in this match as they start off fast and strong with head scissors and takedown. Rush attempts another head scissors outside but ACH reverses it until Rush hits a moonsault on the outside. ACH starts using his power over Rush, but Rush reverses with a cartwheel and a kick taking down ACH. Rush runs into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker by ACH. Rush hits a couple of clotheslines before taking ACH down a handspring back elbow and a bounce off the bottom rope into a crazy-looking Cutter. Rush attempts another handspring but ACH reverses with a German suplex. ACH attempts a Tiger Driver that Rush reverses, they go back and forth dodging kicks before ACH ends the sequence with a double stomp to the back for a 2 count. The crowd gets into it with “Let’s Go Lio” / “ACH” chants. Rush gets the upper hand hitting a dive to the outside and attempts another springboard stunner but ACH stops it and hits the Tiger Driver for a 2 count. This continues the story of Rush attempting the same moves but ACH knowing when to block them. ACH misses a 450 but hits a German but runs in the Rush Hour. Lio Rush takes advantage of the situation and hits the Dragon’s Call Frog Splash for the win.

Lio Rush def. ACH at 16:21

Siino Vision: I’m so happy to see both of these men in a better place and both looking very healthy and glad to be doing this after some hardship and retirement talks, as they are young and some of the best talents that were let go of WWE in the last year. Not sure if it is possible but would love to see Lio Rush take part in the Best of the Super Juniors in NJPW as he would make a great addition. ACH has been part of NJPW Strong and continues to show why he has been one of the most consistent in the last couple of years.

Joey Janela vs. Ricky Morton

They mention 64-year-old Morton has been backstage watching every show from this Collective weekend (This being the 7th show out of 12 so far). The crowd has woken up a bit chanting “Rock N Roll”. Morton gets Janela all riled up and he goes and knocks over the merch table. Janela is getting knocked all over the place selling Morton’s punches. Janela tells Morton to take it on to the floor with him. They start chopping back and forth before Morton hits a Flair style back kick to Janela’s bad boys. Janela fights back with a chair before setting up the merch table. Morton and Janela both get on top of it with Morton smashing Janela into it with a piledriver. Janela immediately gets up and hits Morton with the side of the steel chair. twice, busting up Morton. Janela wipes Morton’s blood off with a Jim Cornette “Clownette” sign getting the crowd to chant “Fuck Cornette” followed by “Ricky Morton”.

Morton hits a devastating Death Valley driver onto the ring apron on Janela. Morton grabs one of those wooden doors from under the ring setting it up against the turnbuckle. He tries to Irish whip Janela into it, but Janela reverses it, Morton goes into the door and into a brainbuster for a 2 count. Janela places the door onto Morton hitting the flying elbow onto Morton for another two-count! Everybody in this building is shocked.  Janela picks up the pieces of the broken door and starts hitting Morton with them and locks in the figure four. Morton gets out, Janela attempts another figure four but Morton rolls him up for a 2 count. Janela hits a superkick, but Morton kicks out again. Janela sets Morton up on the ropes, but Morton hits a Canadian Destroyer for another two-count! The crowd is on their feet now as Janela hits a dropkick to Morton’s knees, putting on the figure four again but Morton immediately reverses it and Janela taps out.

Ricky Morton defeats Joey Janela at 13:49

Siino Vision: Wow, what can I say. Ricky Morton continues to amaze me the older he gets, and it is getting to the point where there is nothing, I cannot see Morton doing nowadays. Not the best match on the show, but something to make sure you go out of your way to watch. Rock N Roll forever indeed.

Clusterfuck Battle Royal

Spyder Nate Webb draws #1 as the crowd sings along to Wheatus’ “Teenage Dirtbag”. JTG comes out as #2. Jimmy Lloyd comes out at #3, followed by Cole Radrick #4. Lloyd and Radrick go at it before Starboy Charlie is #5. Flash Flanagan is #6. Sugar Dunkerton (f/k/a Pineapple Pete) is #7 having a fun interaction with JTG. Dunkerton brings in a basketball that they have some funny spots with. Allie Kat is #8. Kung Fu Janela is #9 as there still have been zero eliminations. Dunkerton hits a piledriver on Janela who no-sells it. Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku (Violence Is Forever) come out together next. Ku hits a curb stomp on Allie Kat. Violence Is Forever hits Total Elimination on Flanagan to eliminate him. They then eliminate JTG, before going after Dunkerton. The Carnies (Nick Iggy and Kerry Awful) come out next with chairs. Solo Darling and Willow Nightingale (The Bird and the Bee) come out with chairs as well. Now all 3 tag teams set up all six chairs in the ring and sit in a circle as they start striking each other eventually throwing the chairs to each other’s faces. Spyder Nate Webb comes back into the ring after visiting the beer vendor. Next entrant is Levi Everett, and he starts churning butter in the middle of the ring as the crowd chants “Churn”. He asks Webb to start churning, and he obliges. Everett turns on him after the churn. Next up is Cassandro El Exotico and the crowd erupts. She comes in and lands a kiss on Jimmy Lloyd followed by a head scissors.

Next up is Dustin Thomas who comes in taking down Cassandro with the 619. Next up is Kerry Morton, the son of Ricky, taking down everybody with dropkicks. Next in, is Kody Lane followed by Jody Threat. Next up is Juicy Finau who comes in and destroys everybody before Calvin Tankman comes in to stand toe to toe with him. Tankman takes out both Ku and Garrini, eliminating Violence is Forever. Tankman then double eliminates the Carnies, before throwing Morton and Lane out. Juicy comes in to go face to face with Tankman. Tankman hits Juicy with a Death Valley Driver to get the pin and elimination. Next in is Billie Starkz. Tankman dives out, taking everybody out on the outside. Starkz and Charlie are the only ones in the ring, the two youngest in this match, going back and forth. Tankman comes in to go face to face with Starkz before all 44OH except Rickey Shane Page all come in fighting off all the talent ringside and inside. 44OH starts attacking Starkz before the referee stops it, but they throw Starkz out eliminating her. They then target Kung Fu Janela eliminating him.

Cassandro is next, before getting thrown out as well. Jody Threat comes in to fight off 44OH almost eliminating Gregory Iron but Eddy Only puts a cigarette in her mouth before eliminating her. They now start stomping on Dustin Thomas, placing him on the top turnbuckle. Gregory Iron though stops the rest of 44OH from doing any damage, but it is a ploy as he goes to attack Thomas. 44OH powerbomb Thomas, but Elayna Black comes out next carrying a mini coffin. She opens it and reveals her middle finger is inside as she flips off 44OH. The Second Gear Crew (Matthew Justice, AJ Gray, Manders, Effy, Mance Warner) come out to fight off 44OH. Next up is Nasty Leroy wearing a Nightmare Family jacket with his name on it. The crowd is filled up, but The Second Gear Crew helps Leroy and eliminates 44OH and starts dancing. The Walmart Dudes (Lord Adrean and Tahir2x) come out next. They hit a Canadian Destroyer on Jimmy Lloyd before they start fighting off each other. A third guy runs in and they do a Faith Breaker/Chokeslam combo. The third Walmart guy set up a table outside and hit a Swanton Dive. Cabana Man Dan comes out next hitting everybody with his flip flops. Parrow is out next choke slamming Darling into Nightingale repeatedly eliminating them both. Parrow hits a sit-out powerbomb on Cabana Man Dan eliminating him and then eliminates Manders. Next out is Robert Anthony and Frank the Clown. Frank the Clown goes face to face with Nasty Leroy before Anthony attacks him. Parrow is there to the rescue but receives a low blow from Frank the Clown.

Next in is The Invisible Man taking out Frank, Parrow, and Leroy. Invisible Man and Everett go at it, with Everett hitting the power slam and then starts churning the Invisible Man. The Invisible Man throws out Everett and then attempts to take out Parrow, who eventually gets knocked down by Thomas, who gets eliminated as well. Frank the Clown and Anthony start double-teaming The Invisible Man, but he comes back and double chokeslams them. Tankman comes in and eliminates Anthony and Frank the Clown. Young, Dumb N Broke (Charlie Tiger, Ellis Taylor & Griffin McCoy) come out next eliminating Elayna Black. Working on Dying (Dylan McKay & Steven Sanders) is out next hitting a barrage of high-flying moves. Next out is AIW promoter John Thorne but quickly gets eliminated by Allie Kat. Next out is Logan Stunt. Tankman hits a couple of eliminations before Marko Stunt comes out. The Stunt Brothers tease teaming up, but Marko eliminates Logan. Logan comes back in causing Marko to get eliminated. The Walmart Dudes come back into the ring, Lord A eliminating Tahir before getting to eliminate himself by Lloyd. Thunderkitty comes in and starts attacking Nate Webb before getting attacked by The Invisible Man. The Second Gear Crew comes in and start attacking The Invisible Man with chairs, but The Invisible Man has an Invisible Chair as well and fights back eliminating Justice, Warner & Effy.

Yoshihiko is out next as the crowd goes banana, offering The Invisible Man a handshake, but eventually does the impossible and pins the Invisible Man. Yoshihiko then hits two Canadian Destroyers on Jimmy Lloyd and eventually eliminates him. AJ Gray and Spyder Nate Webb come in and attack Yoshihiko eliminating it. Next out is Shark Boy as the final entrant, eliminating Thunderkitty. Nate Webb offers Shark Boy some beers as they hit double stunners and eliminate Nasty Leroy and Allie Kat. We now see a rapid number of eliminations that ends with Calvin Tankman and AJ Gray standing tall with Gray eliminating Tankman. Atticus hits AJ with a fireball eliminating Gray. It comes down to Atticus Cogar and Spyder Nate Webb as the last two. Atticus hits an Air Raid Crash onto a chair for a two count. He then puts Webb in a trash can, but Webb throws the trash can back to him. He puts Atticus in a tree of woe with the trashcan and hits a Moonsault Van Terminator followed by the Soylent Green for the win.

Spyder Nate Webb wins the Clusterfuck Battle Royal at 1:12:26

Siino Vision: That was a Clusterfuck. There were some fun spots for sure, but this was way too long. I would say maybe it would be more entertaining in person, but by the looks of the crowd, they seem out of it. I cannot blame them, as I bet most of them have been there since this morning and probably were there all day yesterday.

Death Match: Alex Colon (w/ Markus Crane) vs. Matt Tremont

Regardless of what I said about the crowd before, they give Tremont a genuinely nice ovation in what is his last match in GCW. Tremont grabs the first light tube, but Colon takes it, hitting him before being thrown in the ropes filled with them. Colon does the same to Tremont on the other side of the ring. Colon breaks a tube over his head and takes both pieces and starts digging into Tremont’s head. They got outside where Colon hit Tremont with another to the back. 3 minutes in and both a bloody mess. Colon throws the barbed wire covered board onto Tremont. They start throwing chairs at each other before Colon hits a running elbow at Tremont who was sitting on a chair. They eventually get back into the ring and Colon sets up a ladder in the turnbuckle but ends up getting backdropped into it followed by a suplex into light tubes. They go back and forth hitting DDT’s and knee strikes breaking more tubes in the process. Outside the ring, there are 3 doors topped with barbed wire and held up by 8 chairs that Tremont and Colon go through with a Samoan Drop by Tremont. Tremont’s students start to help Tremont by peeling the barbwire off him.

They end up by the bleachers, where Tremont hits a suplex. They end up at another set-up of doors & chairs and Colon jumps off the bleachers onto Tremont who was on the doors. They head back into the ring where Colon puts a stack of tubes onto Tremont and hits a double stomp onto them and Tremont, but Tremont gets right back up and they go to war back and forth before Tremont hits a lariat. Tremont hits a DVD to Colon onto more tubes. Colon places a trash can on Tremont’s head, hitting another double stomp but only getting a two count. More tubes get thrown into the ring, some shaped to look like rakes. They go back and forth smashing each other with over a dozen light tubes as the ring is filled with the dust from the lights. Colon ends up hitting Tremont over the head with two Light Rakes and finally getting the pin.

Alex Colon def. Matt Tremont at 26:20

Matt Tremont gets a standing ovation as he looks up and says, “I Love You” to his friend Danny Havoc as the crowd chants “Danny Havoc”.

Siino Vision: Death Matches are not my cup of tea, but I know it is for many and how this match meant a lot to the fans of Matt Tremont and GCW.

As with most GCW shows, especially Spring Break, it was a mixed bag of all types of wrestling. If I had to pick my matches to go out of your way to watch I would say; Morton vs. Janela, Lio Rush vs. ACH, and Gresham vs. Moriarty, although the majority of the first half of the show was very strong. Overall an enjoyable and fun show

8 light tubes out of 10
