Night one of Wrestle Kingdom 15 saw 2020 Best of the Super Juniors winner Hiromu Takahashi take on the 2020 Super J-Cup winner El Phantasmo. Takahashi emerged victorious and secured his spot in the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship match against the champion Taiji Ishimori on night two.

Ishimori and Takahashi clashed in the semi-main event and it was a back and forth match between the two talents. This past August, Ishimori bested Takahashi to become Junior Heavyweight Champion but this go around, it was Hiromu picking up the win to get back the Junior Title and win the championship for the second year in a row at a Wrestle Kingdom and for the fourth time in his career overall.
