Entering the 2021 men’s Royal Rumble match at the #24 spot was former multi-time World Heavyweight Champion Christian. Christian made it to the final four of the Rumble before being eliminated by Seth Rollins. Christian last got physical in a ring on-screen during the summer of 2020 in a unsanctioned match against Randy Orton on RAW. Prior to that, Christian’s last match was in 2014.

Seth Rollins came in at the #29 spot after last being seen at Survivor Series. During his time away, Rollins and Becky Lynch welcomed their child into the world.

Former United States and Intercontinental Champion Carlito appeared in the men’s Royal Rumble match.

Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan & Kane) reunited in the men’s Rumble match. Shortly after their reunion, Kane chokeslammed Bryan. Damian Priest competed in the match and along with that, he had an interaction with Bad Bunny who performed his single ‘Booker T’ earlier in the night. Priest eliminated both John Morrison and The Miz and Bad Bunny came down to the ring after Miz destroyed the equipment he used for his performance. The award-winning artist then climbed to the top rope and dove onto Miz and Morrison.

Naomi came in at #2 in the women’s Royal Rumble. That match saw the return of Lisa Marie Varon (Victoria) and Jillian Hall as well.

During the women’s Royal Rumble, Alicia Fox won the 24/7 Championship from R-Truth. Alicia did lose it back to Truth and later in the show, Truth lost the 24/7 Title to Peter Rosenberg.

Lana returned and eliminated Nia Jax from the Royal Rumble. Prior to the Rumble, Lana’s last match was against Nia Jax on RAW in December.

Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods reunited during a backstage segment. The three men were sporting tributes to the late Jon Huber (Brodie Lee/Luke Harper) with their ring gear.

To open the 2021 Royal Rumble event, Drew McIntyre successfully defended the WWE Championship against Goldberg.
