Jay White wins NEVER Openweight Title at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku

Jay White defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event of NJPW's 5/3 Wrestling Dontaku show to become NEVER Openweight Champion

Closing out New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Wrestling Dontaku event on 5/3 was Hiroshi Tanahashi defending the NEVER Openweight Championship against Jay White. The conclusion of the match saw Jay getting his hand raised and adding to the list of titles he has captured in NJPW.

Tanahashi walked into the match with one successful title defense against Great-O-Khan in February. Tanahashi won the title from Shingo Takagi earlier in the year.

Along with being the current NEVER Openweight Champion, Jay White has also held the IWGP U.S Heavyweight, Intercontinental and Heavyweight Championships since his return to New Japan in November of 2017.

White was a guest on Chase Owens’ Twitch channel and shared his thoughts about the rumors that he was departing New Japan after Wrestle Kingdom this year. To read White’s comments in full, click here.
