Samoa Joe returns to NXT, will be William Regal’s enforcer

Samoa Joe made his return to WWE after being released in April. Joe is back in NXT and will be William Regal's enforcer

NXT General Manager William Regal kicked off NXT by addressing his comments from TakeOver: In Your House where he stated that a change may be needed when it comes to the GM position.

Regal was confronted by NXT Champion Karrion Kross who wanted Regal to go through with quitting his position. Coming down to the ring before Regal did so was the returning Samoa Joe. The multi-time NXT Champion was released from WWE this past April.

Regal offered Joe the GM position but Joe declined. Joe added that he does want to make sure Regal gets the respect he deserves as GM and went on to accept an enforcer role. Joe is not a member of the talent roster and he cannot put his hands on any talent unless he’s provoked.

It was first reported by Fightful Select that Joe was present at the WWE Performance Center and there were pitches made to use him in NXT. That report was followed up by Dave Meltzer who confirmed that Joe would be returning to WWE.

Joe departed the NXT brand in 2016 after losing to Shinsuke Nakamura in an NXT Championship match. He spent several years on the main roster but dealt with a number of injuries that kept him on the shelf.
