Former partners will clash at TakeOver.
NXT pushed out the announcement on their digital platforms that at TakeOver 36 on August 22nd, Dakota Kai will challenge Raquel Gonzalez for the NXT Women’s Championship.
Several weeks ago during NXT’s taped show which aired on Syfy, Raquel celebrated a recent title win and had Dakota by her side. Dakota then picked up a microphone and called out anyone from the back to come challenge Raquel and a few moments later, Dakota would deliver her signature drive-by kick to Raquel.
The pair established their alliance at TakeOver: Portland in February of 2020 and have held the NXT Women’s Tag Titles together. In a few weeks, they will compete for the NXT Women’s Title.

Kai versus Gonzalez is joining NXT UK and NXT Championship matches on the TakeOver card and here’s the updated lineup:
- NXT UK Championship: WALTER (c) vs. Ilja Dragunov
- NXT Championship: Karrion Kross (c) (w/ Scarlett) vs. Samoa Joe
- NXT Women’s Championship: Raquel Gonzalez (c) vs. Dakota Kai
