WRESTLING NEWS
**David Bixenspan at Deadspin has uncovered several motions that were filed on behalf of Dr. Christopher Amann ahead of his trial against CM Punk and Colt Cabana. According to Bixenspan’s reporting, the motions were filed to ensure specific issues would not be broached during the trial, some of those motions were under seal and could only be viewed by those involved in the case, others were viewable to the public. Uh oh.
The publicly accessible documents included a motion that the defense could not reference his romantic and sexual relationships he had with former WWE performer Jillian Hall and an independent wrestler who had tryouts with the company. Deadspin did contact Hall, who gave her approval that her name could be included in their story. Dr. Amann stated in a deposition from last August, that he and Hall were involved in a relationship from November 2009 – February 2010. Hall remained with the company until November 2010.
The Deadspin article goes on to speak with Arthur Caplan, an ethics professor at NYU, who explains the ethical implication of dating a patient, classifying it as “a huge ethics no-no”. Caplan explained that a doctor in the position of treating someone they are involved with can cause the doctor to distort their ability to properly treat them and creates “dual loyalties”.
Deadspin did receive a statement from the WWE on the story:
We were not aware of this. We are investigating the matter and will determine if any action is warranted.
**Kota Ibushi has been added to the ‘All In’ card on September 1st at the Sears Centre.

**Earlier this week, Smash Wrestling announced that they were stripping FTM / Franky TM (Marc-Andre Boulanger) of the Smash Wrestling championship “due to circumstances ongoing in FTM’s personal life”. Boulanger’s home was raided by police in June 2016 where they discovered narcotics and steroids and Boulanger is facing charges of possession with the intent of trafficking. Earlier this month, a judge ruled that the warrant to raid his home was valid and that a trial is forthcoming, although Boulanger has entered a plea of not guilty.
**Kento Miyahara will defend the Triple Crown championship against Zeus on July 29th in Osaka at All Japan’s Summer Action Series at the Edion Arena.

**The Highspots Wrestling Network has announced that they will be making the “Bruiser Brody: Wrestling’s Last Rebel” documentary available for free this Monday to coincide with what would have been Frank Goodish’s 72nd birthday. I highly recommend this documentary as all the key people that are still alive are interviewed, including Tony Atlas who was there in the locker room the night Brody was killed in July 1988.

TELEVISION REVIEWS
Impact Wrestling (June 14th)
-The reveal of the mystery attacker occurred on this week’s show after Petey Williams was wrongfully arrested. The officer arresting Williams was revealed to be Kevin “Killer” Kross and beat down Williams with a nightstick to end the show. Kross is based out of Las Vegas and worked several tapings for Global Force Wrestling when they were taping television and pitching the series. He has also worked for AAA and done dark matches for Lucha Underground in the past. This was a strong introduction of a new heel that feels important right out of the gate.
-They ran a taped match between Moose and Eli Drake from a House of Hardcore match with Moose winning to secure the Impact title shot at Slammiversary against Austin Aries, which had already been announced at the press conference, but they hadn’t reached that point on television. Slammiversary is being built around Moose’s dream of becoming a world champion and poised to become the top babyface with a championship win at the show.
-They have splintered Eddie Edwards and Sami Callihan off into other programs with Edwards attacking Tommy Dreamer on this week’s show with a kendo stick and Callihan threatening to tear off El Hijo del Fantasma’s mask when Pentagon Jr. made the save and sets up that program. Callihan’s eye was done up with heavy makeup to make it look like it was completely swollen shut from the attack by Edwards in the woods last week.
-The other strong point on this week’s show was the No Disqualification match between Tessa Blanchard and Kiera Hogan, which was the best match either has had in Impact. They had eight minutes of television time and built the match slowly before a chair was introduced and they didn’t overdo it. Typically, in a No DQ match you will get so many weapons and the audience is numb within a minute. This time, they used the chair sparingly with Hogan throwing the chair at Blanchard and placing the chair in the middle of the ring. After a struggle, Blanchard twisted Hogan from a full nelson hold and slammed her into the chair for the win. It was a basic match but very effective in working around a few key chair spots.
WWE NXT (June 13th)
-The highlight of the show was the U.K. championship match between Pete Dunne and Kyle O’Reilly, which was one of the best television matches from NXT this year. There were many elements from O’Reilly’s past matches with KUSHIDA sliced into the match. The finish was clever with O’Reilly removing Dunne’s mouthguard and leaving himself open for Dunne to snap the fingers and hit the Bitter End for the win. The Undisputed Era swarmed the ring to attack Dunne, leading to Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch chasing them off. This was a tremendous match and the final note on the build for the tag title match Saturday at TakeOver.
-Bianca Belair is being groomed as a title challenger for the future. Everyone seems very high on Belair, who is a tremendous athlete, has great confidence and projects it well. She defeated Aliyah and they set up a match with her and Dakota Kai for next week’s show, which will be taped in Chicago this weekend.
-The show ended with Lars Sullivan laying out Aleister Black, placing him onto the announcer’s desk and posing with the championship. They do all the tricks in shooting a giant, such as the low angle camera shots and it sets him apart from the rest. The match has a lot to live up to as a championship match on a TakeOver special and will likely be the second straight TakeOver where the title match doesn’t go on last.

MMA NEWS
**Conor McGregor and his team were in court Thursday morning over the charges he faces from the violence at the Barclays Center this past April during UFC 223 fight week. McGregor and teammate Cian Cowley appeared in front of the judge and stated they were planning to negotiate a plea deal. With that, they were dismissed and will return for a hearing on July 26th, which is when the case is expected to be resolved. McGregor is facing three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief while Cowley is facing one count of assault and one count of criminal mischief for their roles in the attack. The two men turned themselves into authorities the night of the attack and were released on bonds. Ariel Helwani appeared on Sportsnet 590 on Thursday evening and stated that the UFC is hopeful is booking him for a fight before the end of 2018 with September and October as options for McGregor to fight lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
**A lightweight fight between Al Iaquinta and Justin Gaethje has been announced as the main event for the UFC’s Fight Night card on Saturday, August 25th in Lincoln, Nebraska. Gaethje is coming off three incredible fights since signing with the UFC with fight-of-the-year contenders with Michael Johnson and Eddie Alvarez in 2017 and Dustin Poirier this past April. Iaquinta last fought at UFC 223 in a strange set of circumstances. Iaquinta was set to fight Paul Felder on the card, however, when Max Holloway failed to make weight to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, Iaquinta ended up getting the fight on 24 hours notice and lost by unanimous decision to Nurmagomedov.
**It was first reported by MMA Fighting that bantamweights John Dodson and Jimmie Rivera will be fighting on September 8th, which is scheduled to be the UFC 228 pay-per-view, although a location has not been announced for the card. Rivera is coming off his first loss in almost ten years after being stopped by an incredible head kick from Marlon Moraes earlier this month in Utica, New York. Dodson last fought in March where he defeated Pedro Munhoz by split decision and has been 3-2 since coming up from flyweight.
**Former UFC and WEC fighter Brad Pickett has announced he is coming out of retirement and signed a contract with the ACB group that will be running a card in London on August 11th. Pickett was 1-6 in his final seven fights at the UFC, losing his retirement fight to Marlon Vera by TKO in March 2017 in London. He does not have an opponent yet for the August 11th event but told Peter Carroll of MMA Fighting that he is hoping to fight Takeya Mizugaki.
