An additional update on Kota Ibushi.
It was Kota Ibushi and Kazuchika Okada competing in the finals of the 2021 G1 Climax tournament. Ibushi attempted a ‘Phoenix Splash’ and dislocated his shoulder when he hit the mat. The match was stopped and Okada was declared the winner.
New Japan provided an update on Ibushi via their official website and noted that his recovery time is expected to be two months. Here’s the full write-up from NJPW1972.com:
On October 21’s G1 final, Kota Ibushi suffered an injury in the ring that led to the match being stopped. After treatment from ringside medical staff, he was taken for a thorough evaluation.
The evaluation revealed a right anterior dislocation of the shoulder, and joint lip damage. Recovery is expected to take two months.
Further updates will be provided as to Ibushi’s return when more information is available.
We apologise for any concern caused, and join fans in wishing Ibushi the very best in his recovery.
New Japan is running three days of Wrestle Kingdom in January.
Kazuchika Okada brought back the previous version of the IWGP Heavyweight Title. Shingo Takagi is the current champion and Will Ospreay is competing in the U.S. and is self-proclaiming that he is the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion since he never lost the title in a match.
