Britt Baker reflects on her ‘Lights Out’ match with Thunder Rosa.
The current AEW Women’s World Champion Dr. Britt Baker is nearing eight months as champion. Baker has had successful title defenses against Nyla Rose, Red Velvet, Kris Statlander, Ruby Soho and Tay Conti since capturing the title at Double or Nothing.
Britt recapped her 2021 while on Busted Open Radio and she looked back on the Unsanctioned Lights Out match she had with Thunder Rosa at St. Patrick’s Day Slam in March. Britt believes that is the best match of 2021 and thinks it laid a strong foundation for what AEW’s women’s division is now.
Of course [I think the Lights Out match with Thunder Rosa was the best match of the year]. I’m hella bias but I course I believe that and it’s not because it was just a great match or it had cool stuff or even the fact that it had the hardcore elements to it but it just built such a strong foundation for the women’s division. It added legitimacy to the women’s division that was just so under fire and to say not only was it the best match of our women’s division or women’s wrestling, but of all of wrestling, I mean that’s pretty frickin’ cool. That’s something you dream of your whole life is like having a match that people talk about. So to accomplish that this year and in my opinion, I’m still pretty early in my career so it just really hyped me up to keep going and you know, it makes me really excited for professional wrestling and the future of women’s wrestling in general.
Baker’s next challenger is the first-ever AEW Women’s World Champion Riho. Their match is taking place on January 8th at Battle of the Belts.
