Over the weekend, Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Tetsuya Naito to become the 2022 New Japan Cup winner. It was the second time that Sabre Jr. won the tournament and he is now scheduled for an IWGP World Heavyweight Title match and that bout is taking place on the last day of NJPW’s ‘Hyper Battle’ tour.

The cards for the tour have been announced and on the final day, six championship matches are taking place which is being headlined by Okada versus Sabre Jr. Below is the lineup:

  • Jado, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Gedo, Yujiro Takahashi, Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens
  • Shingo Takagi & Tetsuya Naito vs. United Empire (Will Ospreay & Aaron Henare)
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships: Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi (c) vs. El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori
  • KOPW 2022 Trophy Match: Toru Yano (c) vs. Taichi
  • NEVER Openweight Championship: EVIL (c) vs. Hiromu Takahashi
  • IWGP Tag Team Championships: YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto (c) vs. United Empire (Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan)
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: El Desperado (c) vs. SHO
  • IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

For the Yano versus Taichi match, Yano proposed the stipulation that both he and Taichi must drink a cup of ‘Sake’ every two minutes. If either individual does not abide by that two-minute rule to finish their drink, they’ll lose the match.

Taichi proposed for the match to be held with no ring ropes and the winner is whomever pushes their opponent out of the ring. There would be no pin falls or submissions.

The Hyper Battle tour kicks off April 3rd and Okada and Sabre Jr. will compete against each other as a part of a six-man tag in the main event.
