GHC Heavyweight Champion Kazuyuki Fujita tests positive for COVID-19

GHC Heavyweight Champion Kazuyuki Fujita turned over a positive PCR test and as a result, he is off NOAH's April 30th show

UPDATE: 9:39AM ET – Go Shiozaki to wrestle for vacant GHC Heavyweight Championship


Kazuyuki Fujita is off NOAH’s 4/30 show.

The GHC Heavyweight Championship was scheduled to be defended on April 30th. The reigning champion Kazuyuki Fujita was going to defend the title against Go Shiozaki at NOAH’s Ryōgoku Sumo Hall show but due to Fujita testing positive for COVID, he has been pulled from the event.

NOAH is going to host a press conference today to provide details about the next steps now that the GHC Heavyweight Champion is sidelined for the time being. The promotion issued the following:

Kazuyuki Fujita will not participate in the Ryogoku Kokugikan Tournament on April 30. Kazuyuki Fujita, who is scheduled to participate in the April 30 Ryogoku event, will be absent due to testing positive for Coronavirus (PCR test positive). Details of this matter will be announced at the press conference today. We apologize for any inconvenience and concern this may cause to our fans and other concerned parties, and ask for your understanding.

Fujita became champion this past February by defeating Katsuhiko Nakajima.

NOAH is running a show at Sumo Hall on 4/29 as well and that show will feature the likes of Ninja Mack, Chris Ridgeway, Slex and Michael Elgin.
