Dawkins also touched on The Street Profits’ WrestleMania match taking place after Triple H appeared.
Last week, the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles were unified when The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) bested RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle) to obtain the Raw Tag Titles and hold onto their SmackDown Tag belts.
WWE Triple Crown Tag Team Champion and one-half of The Street Profits, Angelo Dawkins, shared his thoughts about the titles being unified during his appearance on NBC Sports’ Ten Count podcast. Dawkins is of the mindset that it helps the tag division and said teams want to be the duo to hold both sets of belts.
It helps [the tag titles being unified]. You obviously wanna be numero uno. You wanna be the person that holds both titles for both brands, be the flagship for both brands and The Usos came out and executed that plan to a T. Now, they got a target on their back, even though they’re trying to hunt everybody else. Just know, they got a target on their back. The streets is watching.
Dawkins and Montez Ford challenged for the Raw Tag Titles in the opening match of WrestleMania 38 night two. Prior to that match, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque appeared in front of the crowd and laid his wrestling boots in the middle of the ring.
Levesque formally announced his retirement from pro wrestling coming out of his health scare in September 2021. Dawkins said it was heartbreaking to find out that Levesque had to wrap up his in-ring career, but that gave him the motivation to want to follow up Levesque’s appearance by having a good match.
It was heartbreaking [hearing that Triple H had to retire from in-ring competition]. It sucked. The weird part right before we went out for our match at WrestleMania [38], he goes out there, puts his boots in the middle of the ring, rolls out and I was just like, oh snap, this really it-it and not only that, it’s like dang, now we gotta go out there and put on a show for him. Gotta be like, aye dawg, you in good hands now. We got this. But nah, he was a big pillar in the game, you know what I’m saying? He’s one of the guys that changed the game. He’s a ‘Cerebral Assassin’ in the game man. He changed it and it was awesome to see. It was heartbreaking to see but it was awesome to have him go out there and have that moment and just be able to just like, at least put his boots in the middle of the ring, have the crowd acknowledge him and give him that one cool, one last send off and then you’re just like, aye, now let’s go put on a show for the big dog, you know what I’m saying? Triple OG, OG Triple. Triple OG, OG Triple H.
Dawkins and Ford were in action this past Monday on Raw. They teamed with Riddle and picked up a win over Sami Zayn and The Usos. To get a recap of that show, click here.
