Bobby Fish is now a free agent.
Coming out of the 8/31 episode of AEW Dynamite, it was first reported by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp that Bobby Fish’s contract with AEW was coming up and it was not going to be renewed. In an update from PWInsider, Fish is officially a free agent as his contract expired on 8/31.
Fish made his AEW in-ring debut in October 2021. He challenged Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship. He went on to have singles matches against Bryan Danielson and CM Punk. When Kyle O’Reilly arrived to AEW, they reformed reDRagon and re-established the group with Adam Cole.
They were last featured on-screen together when Cole, Fish and O’Reilly ambushed The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson). Cole and O’Reilly have not wrestled since June as they’re recovering from their respective injuries.
While Bobby Fish was doing a virtual signing in August for K & S WrestleFest, he discussed how he felt he was being presented in AEW:
I have to agree [Fish responded to a commenter who noted that he, Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly should be headlining shows]. I certainly agree. I mean what it comes down to, we’ve all been doing it a good long time and we’d have to be numb in the head and that’s the most political way I can put it to not be good at what we do. So, I know for a fact that myself, Kyle and Adam all do what we do at an extremely high level whether that’s together or separate and it’s our employer’s job to know what to do with that. So, frankly it just comes down to, like, figure it out, utilize your talent and we’re getting paid, use us the way you can best utilize us. Get the most bang for your buck and whether that’s happening or not currently is — I don’t know, it’s up for debate. In his [commenter’s] opinion, no.
I’ll just speak for myself and not speak for Kyle [O’Reilly] and Adam [Cole]. I should be utilized a certain way and if my employer doesn’t see that, then that’s bad on them. Know the value of your talent and that’s just being good at booking wrestling.
June was when Fish had his last TV match for AEW and he had not wrestled for the company since July at a Dark: Elevation taping.
