Muto added that it ‘seems’ NOAH inquired about the idea of facing Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Coming up on February 21st is Keiji Muto’s final match to wrap up his near 40-year career. He’ll be headlining his final match event at the Tokyo Dome against NJPW’s Tetsuya Naito.

On the lead up to the event, Muto was interviewed by ABEMA TIMES and told the publication that before settling on Naito, he thought about choosing Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, a talent from NOAH or a foreign talent to be his final opponent.

Muto added that ‘it seems’ fans of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson were excited about the possibility of him wrestling Muto and ‘it seems’ NOAH inquired about it.

That’s part of it, and I also felt his (Shinsuke Nakamura’s) love for Keiji Muto from the beginning. So when I thought about who would be a good opponent (for my retirement match), I thought about calling Okada (Kazuchika), Tanahashi (Hiroshi), or even someone from NOAH, or even a foreign wrestler. To be frank, it seems that the fans of The Rock were also excited, but it seems that the company asked about it.

But it’s impossible because of the enormous cost. Billions of dollars (laughs).

Muto is going into this match with a torn muscle in his thigh. He suffered that injury in his last match as the Great Muta persona.
