Jey’s Journey

SmackDown started with Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman already in the ring. Jey Uso immediately interrupted and the announce team talked about how Jey was going to choose whether to stay with The Bloodline or align with his brother Jimmy. Jey told Solo that stabbing his brother in the back is something you don’t do. Heyman got on the mic and said Jey had it all wrong – that this was all Jimmy’s fault and that he made up his mind for both himself and Jey. Heyman went on to say that Jimmy understands that Roman Reigns wants to groom Jey to be the next Tribal Chief and that’s why he attacked Roman. Heyman announced Jey would be bringing gold back to The Bloodline tonight as he will be facing Austin Theory for the United States Championship. Heyman extended his hand to confirm their deal and Jey said “I’ll get back to you on that” and left the ring.

Later in the back, Sami Zayn approached Jey and told him that some of the best times of his life were when they were together in The Bloodline including making him laugh when he was not supposed to. Sami advised Jey to listen to what was in his heart, not what was being put into his ear.

In another later segment, Jey told Paul Heyman that if he stays in The Bloodline, Heyman was out.

Money in the Bank Qualifying

Before the first Money in the Bank Qualifying Match of the night between Santos Escobar and Mustafa Ali could begin, the already-qualified LA Knight’s music hit and he came out to accompany Cole & Barrett on commentary. Santos Escobar picked up the win with the Phantom Driver after a very good short match. The rest of The LWO came out to celebrate with Escobar as the segment ended.

The next MITB Qualifying match of the night was Damage CTRL’s Bayley vs. The OC’s Michin. Bayley got the win by pulling Michin’s hair and hitting her with the Rose Plant. After the match, Scarlett approached AJ Styles who was doing commentary, and blew red smoke into his face allowing Karrion Kross to sneak up from behind through the crowd and apply the Kross Jacket to Styles.

The third MITB Qualifying Match was Butch of The Brawling Brutes taking on Baron Corbin. NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams were shown in the crowd before the match and the announce team reminded us that Corbin may want to challenge Hayes if he wins the briefcase. Corbin cut a promo on Hayes and Williams calling them fans. Butch picked up the win in under two minutes and Corbin got into a brawl with Hayes & Williams with officials pulling them apart.

The fourth and final MITB Qualifying Match saw Shotzi taking on Damage CTRL’s Iyo Sky. Bayley continually got involved in the match distracting and attacking Shotzi allowing Sky to pick up the win with the moonsault.

Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn

Kayla Braxton was about to interview the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn in the ring when WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler interrupted. Baszler claimed that she was the reason the NXT Women’s Tag titles were ever created. Rousey said they want their titles. Fyre & Dawn responded and assumed that they meant a title unification match which they accepted. The four women brawled with Fyre & Dawn coming out on top.

Tribute to The Sheik

A tribute video to The Iron Sheik was shown who passed away this week at the age of 81. Check out John Pollock’s excellent write-up about his life.

Asuka’s New Belt & Belated Bianca

Bianca was talking to Adam Pearce in the back and he said that she was “in line for a rematch” and asked her to not attack Asuka tonight so he could present her with the new championship and she agreed. Adam Pearce brought Asuka out to the ring and presented her with the “WWE Women’s Championship” which had a similar look to Roman Reigns’ new belt that was unveiled last week.

Charlotte Flair then appeared for the first time since WrestleMania and Adam Pearce that she has to “get in line” and Charlotte replied that she doesn’t wait in line, she made the line. Charlotte challenged Asuka for the title and Asuka accepted. Asuka attempted to mist Charlotte but she side-stepped it and threw Asuka out of the ring. After the break, Bianca was upset with Adam Pearce for indicating Charlotte would get a title shot at Money in the Bank in London. Pearce promised he’d figure it out.

Interesting Fact: Charlotte TWICE pointed at the old Raw Women’s Championship while challenging Asuka. A simple mistake or a sign of a twist to come?

Backstage Tag Title Turmoil

A backstage version of a promo parade of sorts occurred with Pretty Deadly, Brawling Brutes, Good Brothers, The LWO, and the Street Profits all wanting to get a Tag Team Championship match against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. Adam Pearce came in and announced a Gauntlet match for next week.

Main Event Jey and His Big (In)decision

The main event saw Jey Uso challenging Austin Theory for the United States Championship. Theory said backstage that Paul Heyman should contact him about becoming a client after he gets kicked out of The Bloodline. Jey Uso had the match won with the splash from the top but the referee had been inadvertently knocked out of the ring. Pretty Deadly tried to interfere but Jimmy Uso ran down and took them out. This then brought out Solo Sikoa who attacked Jimmy and was about to spike him when Jey made the save. Then Jimmy accidentally superkicked Jey which allowed Austin Theory to steal the pinfall victory as the referee came back to life.

After the match, Jimmy tried to help Jey to his feet but Jey shoved him back as he was staring down Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman. Jey walked off with no clear decision being made and Paul Heyman asked his phone to call Roman. Michael Cole then asked if Jey would make his decision next week, despite the whole show being hyped around his decision being tonight.
