There will be only one set of WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions after a match was agreed to unify the NXT and main roster versions of the titles.
During Friday’s episode of SmackDown, the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn of The Unholy Union were introduced for an in-ring interview.
As they entered the ring, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey, emerged to interrupt.
Baszler told The Unholy Union that she was the reason the NXT Women’s tag belts existed. Rousey said that the division was not big enough for two sets of tag champions.
Describing the challenge as a “unification match,” Fyre and Dawn agreed and immediately attacked Rousey and Baszler. The four brawled, with the Unholy Union coming out on top.
The match was later made official for the June 24 edition of SmackDown.
A full report on SmackDown by John Kleinchester will be published shortly after the show concludes.
