AEW President Tony Khan believes his company’s strategic relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling is more important than ever.
While speaking with Reuters ahead of this month’s Forbidden Door event in Toronto, Khan alluded to the pending merger between WWE and Endeavor and the need for a solid partner in the wrestling space:

After several talent exchanges, the relationship blossomed with the inaugural Forbidden Door event in June 2022, which sold out the United Center in Chicago and drew approximately 140,000 buys on traditional and streaming pay-per-view, per Wrestlenomics.
The Reuters article spoke with NJPW president Takami Ohbari, who spoke of the assistance in global expansion for his company through its relationship with AEW.
The article noted that international revenue for NJPW grew by 14 percent during the pandemic and the company is optimistic of doubling that growth by 2026.
In addition to Forbidden Door, AEW is sending Jon Moxley to wrestle for New Japan on July 4 and Eddie Kingston has been announced for the G1 Climax this summer.
