The film’s global release is on July 21st.

The ‘Barbie’ film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling hits theaters on July 21st. There was a red carpet event on July 9th and WWE’s Liv Morgan and Scarlett Bordeaux were present.

16-time WWE World Champion John Cena has a cameo appearance in the film as a Merman. Chris Van Vliet had the opportunity to sit down with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and he asked about Cena’s appearance in the movie.

Margot confirmed that she had something to do with it. She was out to eat in London while filming and when she went to pay the bill, she was informed that Cena had already taken care of it. Cena had been filming at the same studio that Barbie was being filmed at and Margot ended up asking Cena if he would want to be the Merman. She did not think he would spontaneously agree to it.

I did (have something to do with John Cena being in Barbie). It was actually a fortuitous… It happened while we were shooting in London. I ran into him at a restaurant and we’d worked together before and I was like — actually I ran into him because I went to pay the bill and they were like, ‘John Cena already took care of it’ and I was like, ‘What!? Where is he?’ I mean he’s a big guy… Yeah, because I couldn’t see him (she laughed) but I was like, he’s hard to hide. Anyways, I found him and I was like, ‘What are you doing here?’ He was shooting at (Warner Bros Studios) Leavesden where we shot the film as well and I was like, ‘That’s where we’re shooting Barbie’ and I was like, ‘Do you wanna come be a Merman in Barbie?’ He was like, ‘Uh, yeah’ and I was like, surely he’s not gonna agree to it just like that and he did. He’s so awesome like that.

Cena was in London earlier this month for WWE Money in the Bank. He appeared in front of the live audience and hyped up the idea of WrestleMania in London
