After its lowest number to date, AEW Collision rebounded this past Saturday with the show featuring CM Punk vs. Samoa Joe.
The July 8 edition of Collision from Regina averaged 580,000 viewers and 279,000 (0.21) in the 18-49 demographic, which ranked fifth among cable originals according to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics.
The overall viewership increased by 28% and the 18-49 audience rose by 62% from the previous week’s taped episode from Hamilton.
It was the second largest 18-49 audience of the show’s short four-week history trailing the premiere on June 17.
The major rebound was seen among adults 18-34 which did 106,000 viewers or 179% above the previous week’s average. Males 18-34 grew from a shockingly low 11,000 last week up to 65,000 this week while females in the demo grew by 46%.
Adults 35-49 were up by 30% including females rising by 71% this week.
According to Thurston, Collision ranked fifth among cable originals, which was led by the UFC 290 prelims on ESPN that averaged 704,000 viewers and 414,000 in the 18-49 demo. The prelims were simulcast on ABC and ESPN+ with the fights averaging 1,155,000 viewers and 0.33 in 18-49 on ABC, per Spoiler TV.
Collision also ranked behind a soccer game on TUDN, the early UFC prelims at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN 2, and Formula 1 Qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
In Canada, Collision streamed live on TSN+ and aired on a four-hour delay on TSN 2 at Midnight ET with an average viewership of approximately 34,000 and 7,000 in the 25-54 demographic.
The show included CM Punk and Samoa Joe’s first match since 2005 and a 28-minute title eliminator match between AEW tag champions FTR and Jay White & Juice Robinson.
Thurston’s quarter-hour report noted the most-watched quarter was the final one with the ending of Punk vs. Joe at 625,000 viewers while the largest quarter in the 18-49 demo was the end of the tag match from 8:45-9 p.m. ET that averaged 300,000 viewers and narrowly edged out the final quarter that did 295,000.
