Rhodes takes a look back at the early days of his career.
Coming up at the end of July, WWE is going to release their Peacock documentary that is centered around Cody Rhodes. A press event/early screening was held on July 18th and it was there that Rhodes sat down with Busted Open Radio’s Dave LaGreca for an interview.
Rhodes was speaking about people who have played a key role in his journey and he brought up Tommy Dreamer’s name. He remembers Dreamer taking a call about him coming to train at Deep South Wrestling, which was used as WWE’s developmental system from 2005-2007.
He shared that Dreamer explained to him why he would be paid the lowest amount one could possibly be paid in the company. He didn’t want to show favoritism, but Rhodes feels he was naturally showing favoritism by giving him a job in the first place.
It’s not talked about (in my new Peacock documentary) about how Tommy Dreamer took an email from me and said, ‘Yeah, come to practice at Deep South and we’ll talk’ and then explain to me why I was gonna get paid the lowest amount you could possibly be paid in the company because he didn’t want to show any favoritism but he was naturally showing favoritism by just giving me the job in the first place. Tommy’s a huge part of my journey and walking me out to the ring at ALL IN. I don’t credit Tommy enough, Al Snow enough, Joe Koff enough, Danny Davis enough. They’re huge parts of what I did. Massive, massive, massive parts. I can’t thank them enough.
In several weeks, Rhodes and Brock Lesnar are going to have their rubber match at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event.
