Will Ospreay has claimed that UK independent promotion Revolution Pro Wrestling turned down $1 million from WWE.
Ospreay was speaking on Sunday at a press conference following NJPW Destruction in Kobe.
When promoting his upcoming match for the IWGP United States Championship with Zack Sabre Jr, Ospreay spoke of their history in RevPro.
He said:
We are the two guys that were the backbone of British wrestling, the two guys that made it succeed, the two guys that were the bridge to New Japan Pro Wrestling — to allow El Phantasmo to come over, to allow Dan Moloney, Francesco Akira, Callum Newman, and so many other people to cross over from Revolution Pro Wrestling, a small independent UK company that had a million dollars from WWE, and he turned it down because he believed in Revolution Pro Wrestling.
Ospreay may have been referring to a partnership deal that was tabled back in 2018. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported at that time that RevPro had turned down a deal that would have allowed UK-based WWE talent to appear for the promotion. Meltzer stated that the terms of the deal would have prevented RevPro from partnering with NJPW.
