AEW wrestler Cash Wheeler is expected to go to trial later this year and face one charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. The Orange County Court in Florida set Wheeler’s trial date for May 20, with a pre-trial hearing booked for May 7.
Wheeler has pled not guilty to the third-degree felony charge.
A sworn statement provided to police in July 2023 alleged that a man — who was later identified as Wheeler — flashed a handgun outside of his vehicle window while in traffic. A few weeks after the alleged incident, Wheeler, also known by his legal name Daniel Wheeler, turned himself into the Orlando Police Department.
Wheeler was booked in the Orange County Jail and was later released with a bail of $2,500. A state prosecutor described the incident as “road rage” during a bond hearing in August 2023. Wheeler’s attorney claimed that this was not a domestic issue, and Wheeler didn’t know the people he allegedly had a dispute with.
Shortly after Wheeler’s arrest, AEW provided comment to the Orlando Sentinel: “AEW has been made aware of the charge, and we are closely monitoring the situation,” they said. “He is fully cooperating with local authorities.”
AEW President Tony Khan declined to comment on the incident that summer, calling it an inconclusive situation.
