Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Production company is currently working on a Ric Flair biopic, per a report from Drew Taylor of The Wrap.
Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, plus Kevin Misher of Misher Films are reportedly developing a movie focusing on the life of Flair. Johnson, Misher, and Dany Garcia were part of a similar team that worked on “Fighting With My Family,” a 2019 film that starred Johnson and looked to tell the story of professional wrestler Saraya (referred to in the movie by her WWE name, Paige).
Johnson provided a comment to The Wrap about the film:
As a kid who grew up in professional wrestling, I idolized, ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair,” Johnson told The Cut. “He was a hero to me. And once I broke into the wrestling business and began to spill my own sweat and blood – my reverence for Ric turned to respect. Because I realized just how rare and impossible it is to disrupt the wrestling business, culture and truly change the game – and that’s exactly what Ric Flair did. This project is personal, and we can’t wait to tell his unbelievable story. As always, thank you for the house, Ric.
No details have been released regarding who will be starring in the movie, or what parts of Flair’s lengthy and historical career will be addressed. Flair’s continued presence in wrestling has been under scrutiny in recent years after a 2021 episode of the documentary series “Dark Side of the Ring” aired claims that he cornered and forced a flight attendant to touch his penis on the 2002 “Plane Ride from Hell.” Flair later denied this allegation.
Flair’s history has been covered in great detail, including books and documentaries. Just last year, a 392-page biography The Last Real World Champion written by Tim Hornbaker was released. Flair also previously published an autobiography in 2004, To Be the Man, and a second book that details his career along with his daughter Charlotte Flair: Second Nature: The Legacy of Ric Flair and the Rise of Charlotte.
ESPN’s “30 for 30” documentary series aired an episode on Flair in 2017 titled after his long-time nickname, “Nature Boy.”
