Before the show, NJPW announced that Tanahashi had suffered an ankle injury and would be unable to participate in the ten-man tag where he was set to team with the outgoing Kazuchika Okada.

Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, who was scheduled to wrestle on today’s card in Sapporo, has sustained an injury to his right ankle and will be unable to compete.

We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Tanahashi wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.

Toru Yano will replace Tanahashi and team with Okada, YOSHI-HASHI, Tomohiro Ishii & Hirooki Goto against Jeff Cobb, Matt Riddle, Great O-Khan, Francesco Akira & Callum Newman.

Tanahashi wrestled on Friday’s New Beginning event where he lost the NJPW Television Championship to Matt Riddle after being hit by a Final Flash knee strike and the Bro Derek.
