Nick Jackson: We have a ‘lifetime bond’ with Cody Rhodes

The Young Bucks are happy with the current career path Cody Rhodes is on.

Matt and Nick Jackson recently commented on Rhodes’ current WWE run in an interview with Sports Illustrated. Rhodes, alongside The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, were the original Executive Vice Presidents of AEW when it launched in 2019.

Rhodes was with AEW for many of its major growth years, eventually departing in 2022 to rejoin the WWE roster. Rhodes has been part of a lengthy storyline with Roman Reigns since coming back, aiming to “finish the story” by ending Reigns’ lengthy reign on top at Wrestlemania 40 in April.

Nick Jackson mentioned that they are still in close contact with Rhodes and are happy with his current success.

“Cody is the face of the WWE now, and it’s cool to see because we always knew how much of a star he was,” said Nick Jackson. “The founders of AEW will always have a lifetime bond with each other because we all know what we did for wrestling. We talk every week and in a weird way him leaving made us grow more as friends.

Matt’s comments about Rhodes were similar to his brother’s: “We’re proud of the things we accomplished with Cody and happy to see him rising to the occasion. We’re all rooting for each other.”

A large portion of Nick and Matt’s interview with Sports Illustrated centered around their upcoming tag match against Sting and Darby Allin. The match, which will take place at AEW Revolution, will be Sting’s retirement.

While portions of the interview showed the tag team flexing their new authority gimmick, there were moments where they also mentioned how much a match against Sting means to them.

“I remember watching Nitro, seeing Sting come down from the rafters to attack the NWO, and how mad I’d be that he’d always beat up Hogan,” Nick Jackson recalled. “So to see him still performing at a high level all these years later is amazing. For Matthew and me to be his last match means a lot. It’s the biggest match of our career, and it’s a moment I didn’t think would happen.”
