The Stinger is wrapping up his career on March 3rd.
A career that dates back to 1985 is coming to a close on Sunday, March 3rd as Sting will have his final match. He’ll be defending the AEW World Tag Team Championships alongside Darby Allin at Revolution against The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson).
With his final match inching closer, Sting is making the media rounds and one of the outlets he chatted with was Sports Illustrated.
He spoke highly of Darby Allin and said he’s in good hands with Allin in his corner. He added that it’s been an honor to see him grow and he’s learned so much from Darby. Sting feels he would not have been as successful in AEW without Allin.
I’m in good hands next to Darby (Allin). It’s been an honor to see him turn into this polished star. I’m grateful my last hurrah was with him. I didn’t teach him much about wrestling other than psychology here or there. Less is more, I taught him that. I taught him that it’s good to lose if you can lose the right way. Overall, he’s got the wrestling down. But I’ve learned so much from him. I couldn’t have been this successful without him.
He looked back at the promo he delivered on the 2/21 Dynamite in which he touched on his father’s recent passing. Sting said that was all raw emotion and it meant a lot to him to see the feedback to his words.
Bottom line, that promo, it was very difficult. The heaviness was on me. (Oh) my gosh, the heaviness. It was all real, all sincere, and I’m grateful for the reaction. Tony Khan sent me some high praise. A lot of others did too. That meant a lot. On behalf of my dad, I’ll accept all those kind words.
