Steel has always been in Punk’s corner.
The friendship between CM Punk and Ace Steel is well documented. Steel spoke about that as he was the latest guest on Casual Conversations with The Classic.
He touched on his support of Punk. He remembers when the multi-time World Champion had the opportunity to coach at the Ring of Honor facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Punk thought Steel was going to hate him, but he responded by expressing that there’s no way that’s happening.
100 percent (the type of advice I’d give to wrestlers is try to learn from different people). I mean, I never looked at (CM) Punk and said, don’t go anywhere. He’s like, ‘Hey, I gotta go work here.’ The day he left — we were roommates at the time — the day he left to go be the head trainer at the ROH facility in Philly, he was like, ‘I thought you’d hate me.’ I was like ‘Dude, rock on! That is so freaking cool that you’re gonna go do that’ and look at — there’s people that spawned from him. No, it’s just such a cool thing.
Steel then touched on Punk’s WWE comeback run. Although Punk is recovering from surgically repaired triceps, Steel called him the king of comebacks.
He’s (CM Punk) back where he belongs. He’s back where he belongs. I was excited… I knew it was coming at some point that he should be there and that they would want him. I’m just extremely happy to see him and it’s not just finishing his story, it’s capping his legacy… When he finishes his story, he’s not done, he’s capping his legacy. He loves this business, he’s always loved this business. It broke his heart. But he found the love again and yes, he’s at a down spot right now but he’s the king of comebacks man. So yeah, I’m excited. We’re family so to see family be happy, that’s all I need.
Coming out of the Royal Rumble, Punk appeared on Monday Night Raw to address his injury. He was taken out by Drew McIntyre.
McIntyre has continuously taunted Punk on television and on social media in his absence. As he was leaving the 3/4 Raw, the crowd outside the arena began chanting Punk’s name and McIntyre played ‘Cult of Personality’ from inside his car.
