Things like that is why Belair always says representation is a requirement.
The three cover stars for the WWE 2K24 video game are Cody Rhodes, Bianca Belair and WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley. Belair and Ripley shared a cover and Rhodes had a solo feature.
As the promotion of the game continued, there were comments left under an Instagram post that were racially-driven and directed at Belair. It led to a number of her colleagues defending her via social media.
Belair addressed that as she was being interviewed by Metro. She said things like that is why she feels representation is a requirement and not a request.
That’s why representation, I always say it’s not a request, it’s a requirement, you know? It’s very important for people to see representation to show them their possibilities, because representation is where they fit in the world, it’s what is perceived as where they fit in the world.
She went on to add that she never actually saw the comments and still hasn’t. She was only made aware of what happened when she noticed an abundance of messages left on her phone. At the time when everything was unfolding, Belair was working out.
The negativity never actually got through to me. I’m not one that goes in searches or vanity searches my name anyway. But I’ve still to this day never actually seen what was actually said.
I’m 35 years old, and I’m able to handle that. But kids, that’s what kids are going through now. So we have to make sure that we stand up for that type of stuff.
As of this writing, Belair has not been announced for a match at WrestleMania 40. As the conversation shifted over to headlining the event, Belair said she’s always pushing for the women’s Royal Rumble winner to main event one of the two nights seeing as how she knows what that did for her career.
I’m always pushing for the women, when they win the Royal Rumble, to get the main event. I know how it changed my career and I know how important that is to us.
We’re at a time where our roster is so stacked from the men to the women that any match on the card could be the main event.
Bianca is scheduled to be in singles action on the 3/29 SmackDown. She’ll be taking on Dakota Kai.
POST Wrestling will be reviewing the show and the link to that review can be found here.
