Just days after the WWE Raw brand received new tag team titles, Smackdown did as well. The duo of Austin Theory and Grayson Waller were given new belts and dubbed WWE Tag Team Champions on Friday’s episode.
Both men’s tag titles had a similar design for years, with the color of the leather on the belt reflecting whether a specific set of the championships belonged to the Raw or Smackdown brand. The recent change gives the brands new names for the belts, along with distinct designs.
Similar to what happened earlier in the week on Raw, the next contenders for the title were also determined on Friday. The Street Profits picked up a win in a four-way tag team match, scoring their Revelation double-team move to win the lengthy, fast-paced contest. Also fighting for the title opportunity were Legado Del Fantasma, The Authors of Pain, and The New Catch Republic.
It wasn’t specified whether the title match will take place on the upcoming Backlash PLE, a future episode of Smackdown, or any other potential date.
