Samoa Joe’s in-ring return among matches added to 5/1 AEW Dynamite

A few overnight announcements have added some big names to Wednesday night’s three-hour AEW programming block.

Samoa Joe will make his first in-ring appearance since dropping the AEW World Championship when he meets Isiah Kassidy in a singles bout. Joe went 17 minutes in the main event of AEW Dynasty against Swerve Strickland last month, losing the match and putting an end to his 113-day reign on top.

After Claudio Castagnoli fought one member of the Mogul Embassy in Swerve Strickland, he’ll go up against another this Wednesday when he fights Brian Cage. This match will be the second-ever time that Cage and Castagnoli find themselves in a match together. They previously met in a three-way on Dynamite, battling along with Nick Jackson as well.

While Castagnoli was unsuccessful in his challenge for the AEW World Championship against Strickland on Collision last Saturday, he went 21 minutes in total and gave the defending champ a tough match. Because of this, his time against the Embassy has not come to an end.

It was also recently announced for Dynamite that we’ll hear from Orange Cassidy, who has been caught in between a feud involved Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta during recent weeks.

Jay White will be in action, although it technically won’t be on Dynamite. He’ll face Dante Martin in a singles match as part of a special Rampage on Wednesday night. Rampage, while usually a Friday evening show, will instead take place immediately following Dynamite this week.

White and Martin had exchanges on Saturday as part of a six-man tag title bout between Bullet Club Gold and Top Flight.

Wednesday night’s plans seem pretty full now. Here’s everything that is expected to take place in Winnipeg:

  • We’ll hear from Orange Cassidy

  1. Joe better squash that guy instead of the usual lower card guy gets alot of offense in :joy:

Considering that this is Joe’s first match since Dynasty and Zay was prominently squashed by the debuting Keith Lee two years ago, I would hope so.

  3. He got way too much offense in on Lee though is what I’m saying.

  4. Avatar for BSR BSR says:

All I remember from it is Lee winning and Zay selling, then Lee taking out both members of Private Party afterward by powerbombing one on top of the other. Also, Matt Hardy walked out before the match ended, the announcers alluding to Jeff before he came in.

  5. I’m more interested in who Swerve’s DON opponent will be. My top choices would be Okada, Takeshita, Kingston or Danielson. But honestly I have no clue. Has to be someone significant

  6. Who is #1 in the rankings?

  7. Those were the last ones. Cassidy and Osprey are doing other stuff now. Feels like TK will throw darts and pick someone off this list

    New EVPs pick an opponent.
My hope is Hangman on the verge of a heel turn - who takes that title.
Leads to Hollywood Hangman with the New Elite building to Swerve chasing.

  9. How about Christian Cage? I love it.

  10. Love that. I’m just not sure Cage is considered a big enough star to main event a PPV. I totally think he is but not sure AEW would do that.

  11. You called it! Only problem was trying to present Christian as a heel in Canada. We love him no matter what. Not even the Jets line got people to boo him

  12. I think thats why Winnipeg hardly showed any life tonight. :joy:

  13. Yeahhhh that crowd was comatose

  14. Well he’s already main evented two of them so… he can do another one.

  15. This is the same city that got a hockey team for the second time and still doesn’t support them so they’re probably gonna lose it again it’s a dead end place
