Kingston’s reign comes to an end.
The sixth NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion was crowned at Resurgence. Eddie Kingston put the title on the line against Gabe Kidd in a No Rope Last Man Standing match. Kidd was performed to the ring by music artist Kensei Abbot.
Going into the match, the STRONG Openweight Title was the only championship Kingston had left as he lost the AEW Continental and ROH World Championships.
In his match against Kidd, Kingston had him beat and down for the 10 count. Kingston stopped the count and went to get handcuffs and attached himself and Gabe to one another so they could brawl. Kidd went on to give Kingston a suplex out of the ring and through a table on the outside. They were close to the guardrail and Kingston’s legs bounced off the guardrail.
Kingston was not able to make the 10 count and Kidd was crowned champion. Kingston was able to crawl into the ring after a period of time but as he was kneeling down, Jack Perry made his way out.
While Eddie was focused on Perry, he was ambushed from behind by The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson) in what was their first New Japan Pro-Wrestling appearance since Wrestle Kingdom 13. Matthew and Nicholas berated Kingston verbally and beat him down. Matthew and Nicholas were featured in backstage segments on the 5/11 AEW Collision in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Kingston, Bryan Danielson and FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) are scheduled to clash with The Elite (Matthew Jackson, Nicholas Jackson, Kazuchika Okada & Jack Perry) at AEW Double or Nothing in Anarchy in the Arena.
