Prosecutors have decided to drop their case against AEW’s Cash Wheeler for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

First reported by PWInsider, the State of Florida entered a ‘Nolle Prosequi’ notice on Monday afternoon.

The Latin phrase, literally “decline to pursue”, is used when a plaintiff or prosecutor formally ceases legal action.

The letter filed with the Ninth Circuit Court in Orange County, Florida, is very brief. It simply enters the formal notice that the prosecution will not proceed and that the parties involved have been notified.

No reason has been provided for closing the case, which was due to proceed to a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm ET.

The legal proceedings stemmed from allegations of a road rage incident on July 27th, 2023. Wheeler appeared at Orange County Jail, FL, on August 18th, 2023, for an initial appearance before a judge.

During that hearing, the offense was described as a “road rage type incident” during which Wheeler allegedly flashed a gun at another driver.

The judge accepted the defense’s request for bond at $2,500 with no contact with the alleged victim and the surrender of any weapons. The state attorney did not object to those terms.

The 36-year-old was later arraigned in February 2024 with a trial date set for May 20th. Any further legal proceedings are now marked as “cancelled” on the Orange County Clerk’s court record’s search page.

Wheeler, real first name Daniel, had pled not guilty throughout the legal process.
