A look back at Sami Zayn’s 2024 WrestleMania moment.

For 666 days, GUNTHER reigned as WWE Intercontinental Champion. That reign came to an end on night one of WrestleMania XL as he was defeated by Sami Zayn

Going into the King and Queen of the Ring Premium Live Event in Saudi Arabia, Zayn was interviewed by Arab News. He expressed that one of the hardest things to do in wrestling present day is have matches and memories that people will remember years from now. He feels the WrestleMania match against GUNTHER will be ‘very well remembered.’

I feel like the hardest thing to do nowadays is to have a memorable match and memorable moments that people will remember, oh, two, three, four, five, maybe even 10 years down the road. And I feel like that match (against GUNTHER at WrestleMania XL) was good, if nothing else because of how long he held the title. I feel like it’ll be very well remembered. So I’m very proud of that.

Zayn will be putting his Intercontinental Title on the line in a Triple Threat at King and Queen of the Ring. The full match card is listed as follows:

  • King of the Ring Tournament Final: GUNTHER vs. TBD (Winner of Tama Tonga vs. Randy Orton)
  • Queen of the Ring Tournament Final: Lyra Valkyria vs. TBD (Winner of Nia Jax vs. Bianca Belair)
  • WWE Women’s World Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Liv Morgan
  • WWE Intercontinental Championship — Triple Threat Match: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed
  • Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Logan Paul
