For long, it seemed impossible that we would see TNA talent crossing over in matchups on WWE programming. Because of this, it remains surprising to many, even some wrestlers involved, when the collaborations happen.
TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace made her third in-ring WWE appearance on Sunday, wrestling against NXT women’s champ Roxanne Perez at the Battleground PLE in Las Vegas.
Before her pair of in-ring WWE appearances this week, Grace’s sole bout in the promotion was a Royal Rumble slot in January. When reflecting on how her match against Perez came together, Grace told Sports Illustrated that she was surprised about the opportunity becoming available for her and was especially shocked about how big of a spotlight she was getting.
“The new President of TNA spoke with me about a month ago and told me WWE wanted to have me back,” Grace told Sports Illustrated. “I was like, ‘What is happening?’ We spoke specifically about Battleground, and honestly, I thought I was going to be in the [North American title] ladder match. When I found out it was a singles match, and for the title, I was mind-blown.”
Grace is happy about the opportunity to collaborate between promotions. A potential cross-promotion could continue this weekend when she presents an “Open Challenge” at TNA’s Against All Odds event. Grace told SI that she’s calling out wrestlers from WWE, AAA, STARDOM, MLW, or anybody else to face her.
When talking about co-promotion opportunities, Grace threw out her high hopes of potentially having a “Worlds Collide” show, pitting TNA talent against names against WWE.
“My pie-in-the-sky dream is to have a Worlds Collide pay-per-view,” said Grace. “That’s something everybody–wrestlers and fans–would want to see.”
